U.S., India make another stab at nuclear deal
Tue Jul 17, 2007 6:44PM EDT

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -
The United States and India on Tuesday began a high-level effort to conclude a controversial nuclear cooperation agreement that the State Department said was still within reach.

Hoping to end months of stalemate, top officials met in Washington for two days of talks on the deal, which would give New Delhi access to U.S. nuclear fuel and reactors for the first time in 30 years.

"There are a couple of tough issues we have left to resolve. We believe we can get a deal, we can get an agreement," State Department spokesman Sean McCormack told reporters.

NEW DELHI (Thomson Financial) -
Representatives of India, Iran and Pakistan are set to meet for a second day here today, amid reports they are approaching a deal on a multi-billion dollar pipeline to transport gas from Iran through Pakistan.

India and Pakistan have agreed to pay Iran 4.93 usd per mln British thermal units (btu) for its gas, the Press Trust of India news agency said, finalising one of the thorny issues in the negotiations.

The three countries are due to meet again today to hammer out issues such as how often pricing should be revised, the news agency said.
