Presidential candidate hospitalized (Kucinich)
Source: CNN

Democratic presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich remains hospitalized Wednesday in Ohio after aides say he suffered a severe case of food poisoning.

Kucinich spokesman Andy Juniewicz said the Ohio congressman started feeling ill Sunday before flying to Florida for a campaign appearance. He became sicker in Florida, and was forced to cut the trip short to return to Cleveland.

Juniewicz said he was admitted to a Cleveland-area hospital Monday afternoon, and is being treated for “severe symptoms consistent with food poisoning.”

He said Kucinich was improving, but may remain in the hospital another day or two.

With any bully, it is not how effective you are - it's simply the fact that you would stand up to them. Any opposition, effective or not, will bring down the wrath of a bully.

I think the message has been sent to DK. It's the OTHER 15 cosponsors who need to watch their backs, now.

99. I disagree.
Those with a clear vision of what is really happening in America, a vision that could change that, and the balls to keep talking about it until the people are convinced get assassinated.

Dennis may never be POTUS, but his message is a TRULY populist, anti-corporatist one that, if enough people got behind, we would stop being the easily-contolled "sheep" we need to be for the COrporations to run this country on into the future smoothly. And, Dennis probably can't be "bought" and will not STFU for anyone. Let's face it. He's dangerous.

Remember Wellstone.

Remember MLK.

Remember JFK.

Remember RFK.

I wouldn't doubt for a minute that if he keeps pushing the envelope, DK could end up on that list.

105. Wellstone had a great chance of winning reelection
MLK was not a candidate for office.

JFK had an excellent chance of being reelected. His approval/disapproval rating in November 1963 was 58%/30%

RFK had an excellent chance of winning. He had just won the California Primary when he was killed.

Kucinich has about as much chance of getting the Democratic nomination as Tom Tancredo has of getting the Republican nomination.

110. my thoughts too, TC
The Republic/Democrat divide is mostly just for show...to keep up the illusion of "Choice".
The REAL divide is between the very rich and all the rest of us. DK, like Paul Wellstone, is one of the very few voices that speak for all the rest of us.

DK may not have a shot at the presidency, that has already been pre-determined by the very rich. But DK's VOICE is having an effect down ticket. His persistence is being felt at the grass roots. His message is getting across, and there are those in both Parties who would like to shut him up.

Get Well Soon, Dennis.
Someone needs to keep telling America that:

*Single Payer Universal HealthCare is not only possible, but cheaper.

*that "For Profit" HealthCare is obscene

*that Mandatory Health Insurance is NOT REALLY Universal HealthCare

*that the Democratic Party and American taxpayers should NOT be forced to subsidize some of the richest CEOs in history by subsidizing the HealthCare Insurance Corps and HMOs.

*that the USA SHOULD give the Imperial Palace (Green Zone) back to the Iraqis, close the permanent bases, expel all Corporate Consultants, withdraw ALL US Troops, and begin paying reparations NOW.

*that redeploying some troops at some future date is a PRO-WAR position.

*that the "Oil Law Benchmark" supported by the Democratic Party is a War Crime

*That we can have election accountability with "Paper Ballots publicly hand counted at the precinct".

*that we CAN cut $Billions$ from the Defense Budget

*that the RICHEST Corporations in history do NOT need $Billions$ in welfare subsidies

*that NAFTA (Free Trade) has not been a good thing for Americans who have to work for a living

In this case, I don't think someone (Democrat or otherwise) tried to take him out. It is pretty easy to pick up severe food poisoning since BOTH Parties threw the American Working Class down the dumper with "Free Trade".

"There are forces within the Democratic Party who want us to sound like kinder, gentler Republicans. I want us to compete for that great mass of voters that want a party that will stand up for working Americans, family farmers, and people who haven't felt the benefits of the economic upturn."---Paul Wellstone

...is the campaign heating up to the point of physical engagement and/or sabotage.

San Antonio's Tony Parker suffered food poisoning during '03 Finals from a late lunch at a 'good' Dallas hotel, barring his appearance in that night's crucial game. Just an example.

Watch out what you eat, where and who it comes from.

It is an extremely hard diet to do when you travel. You are at the mercy of available restaurants, and that is not good news for a vegan.

to carry food with you, too.

My daughter's a vegan and on the road all the time. Burger King has veggie burgers now and ahe can also get bean burritos or tacos at Taco Bell.

She says Cleveland is one of the best towns for vegans. There are vegan restaurants and stores where she stocks up on food whenever she's there.

how did you miss the great spinach poisoning of 2006? too many people don't cook their spinach and some of it apparently is contaminated, they had to take a LOT of organic spinach off the market last year

tons of people have also been poisoned in recent years by green onions, my mom knows a guy who was killed by the green onions, think it was hep a in that scandal

123. many people are sickened by wheat gluten even if it isn't contaminated
while i don't doubt your friend's story for a minute, esp. since both of the couple were impacted, many people can't even tolerate wheat gluten if it's "clean," it's called celiac disease and looks like a lot of auto immune diseases and sometimes takes a long time for a person to get a dx and realize that they shouldn't be eating wheat

fake food like veggie burgers should probably stay on the shelf

Veggie burgers may be fake meat, but last I checked, wheat and soy was food.

Processed food of any kind should only be eaten in moderation... in a healthy diet.

141. Very true, and 1 out of 130 people have celiac disease, most

without knowing it. It can lead to cancer, besides all the gastrointestinal problems and other symptoms it can cause.

I quit eating wheat during the Chinese gluten fiasco and either I have celiac disease or a strong allergy to wheat because I have felt much better without wheat.

Annoyingly enough, I had asked my doctor years ago if I might have celiac disease and he just blew me off. I asked him "Why not do the blood tests and see?" but he refused. Now I've got to get him to refer me to a gastroenterologist, or change to a new primary care physician and get him to refer me. Damned HMOs!

And I'll have to eat wheat again for some period of time and be sick again before they can do the blood tests. I am annoyed that he wouldn't just do the tests years ago, wondering if it had to do with my HMO.
Maybe they have limits on how many tests a dr. can order. Who knows?

It is important to find out if you have celiac disease or "just" an allergy to wheat since celiac disease is more serious.

It was probably accidental but other scenarios are not beyond the realm of possibilities, especially if others who ate the same food didn't get sick.

Get well soon Dennis.

Doesn't it seem ODD that the Rep. that introduced a bill to impeach Darth Chainy is suddenly sick w/"food poisoning"? DK has been continually discussing the wrongdoings of this pack of theives continually from day one & now as he campaigns. In my estimation DK is the most honest, forthright candidate out here. Obviously, the neocons CANNOT have the truth discussed by an honest man. He is young enough to be around a while under normal circumstances, so the unnatural solution is the only answer.
This seems fishy to me. :tinfoilhat:

Ohhhh Noooo the MSM isn't bias at all, they know Kucinich is the best candidate by far but they also know that he might stand a chance of effecting change. They also fear that he would bring back the fairness doctrine which would effectively kill Faux Noise and the majority of the MSM lie factory.

Unless it was by his own wishes to keep it quiet, how could we NOT have known before this?

I had food poisoning and wound up in the hospital for about 5 hours, and that was after being sick for a full day. Other bouts didn't even put me in the hospital. Three days in the hospital for food poisoning is very serious -

128. They'd better start checking that rubber chicken on the campaign
circuit. No telling where it came from to begin with. With our slackening of regulation and inspection from the FDA and increased imports of foods from other nations with fewer and fewer standards of safety, food poisoning could be easy enough to get from tainted food and preparation conditions that don't meet commercial standards.

I think all the candidates would do well to hire or try to get volunteer people on their staffs who know how to check for salmonella and other "bugs" that can attack the digestive system. I don't know how blatant the other candidates would be about actually poisoning him. It would seem farfetched to me. I think it's just carelessness on the part of the preparers and those who should be checking these things from the campaign.

146. The green onion is a good guess. Raw food especially if prepared
in a place not a restaurant like a hall or picnic ground by hurried hands that are not professional food preparers could be suspect. I recently got sick from watermelon. Maybe stir-fry or veggies thrown on the barbeque (you can do it with green onion and it's good) would be a good way to campaign. I don't think it would be rude to request such a thing ahead of time.

Now, can he fly on small planes again?
Can he drive past the grassy knoll?
Do we still need to compare him to men who were assassinated?
