Al JazeeraBrazilians are demanding answers after the country's worst-ever air crash killed at least 189 people as new video footage showed the TAM airliner barrelling down the runway after touching down at four times the normal speed.
The justice ministry has ordered an investigation to establish whether the runway met technical and legal security standards as the search goes on for charred remains still to be recovered from the site.
But a security video released by the air force on Thursday showed the TAM Flight 3054 speeding down the tarmac more than four times faster than other jets landing around the same time, raising the possibility of pilot or mechanical error instead of a slick and short runway blamed widely as a likely cause.
Brigadier Jose Carlos Pereira, president of the national airport authority Infraero, said on Thursday that he was perplexed by the video and that an analysis of the black box soon may explain why the jet went so fast after touching down.
