Iraq SloggerAfter nearly two months of a harsh security crackdown, the city of Falluja is facing an urgent humanitarian crisis, according to a member of the Iraqi parliament.
Referring to his remarks as an “S.O.S.,” MP Taha al-Luhaybi has told IraqSlogger that the siege of Falluja, which began May 21, has intensified in the last two weeks and is leading to serious humanitarian repercussions.
As reported earlier on Slogger, automobiles are under full curfew in the Anbar Province city, and the only form of mechanized transport allowed is a system of small buses. The MP explained that the movement of the buses is sharply limited, and residents must walk to designated minibus depots, either in the city center or at the edges of town.
The MP told Slogger that bicycle travel is no longer allowed in the city, removing another form of transport that was available to Falluja residents earlier in the crackdown.
“Falluja looks like Guantanamo Prison,” al-Luhaybi said.
