Sweeney seeks to bar spouse
Source: Albany Times-Union

BALLSTON SPA -- Former U.S. Rep. John Sweeney has filed legal paperwork to keep his wife away from him, according to a court document obtained this week by the Times Union.
The temporary order of protection, signed July 13 by state Supreme Court Justice Richard Aulisi, bars Gaia Sweeney from going near her husband, his home or his business. It also forbids her from communicating with him in any way, and the order shall remain in effect until "further order of the court."

. . . .

The paperwork sheds light on what has apparently been a troubled marriage. Just before Election Day last year, when Sweeney sought re-election, a police report surfaced describing a call Gaia Sweeney had made to 911 on Dec. 2, 2005. She said her husband was "knocking her around."

And this guy thinks he's going to reenter political life and run against Kirsten Gillibrand to get his seat back. Even the Republicans don't want him any longer. The fat F--- hangs out at the local TGI Fridays. What a "Moran."

3. Isn't it kind of weenie to be afraid of his wife.
(I'm joking. I know that domestic abuse is serious, and sometimes involves women hurting men. I'm just turning the usual Republican taunts around.)

4. Yea, I read this in the TU today.
Of course, when the marital strife (911 call) came out right around the election, The pubs said it was all bullshit. I'm shocked I tell you, shocked, that it turns out to be true.

Who'da thunk it?

"The paperwork sheds light on what has apparently been a troubled marriage. Just before Election Day last year, when Sweeney sought re-election, a police report surfaced describing a call Gaia Sweeney had made to 911 on Dec. 2, 2005. She said her husband was "knocking her around."

In response to media coverage of the police report, the Sweeneys appeared arm-and-arm, posing for photographers outside their Clifton Park home.

"The evening in question was a very difficult time for our family," Gaia Sweeney said at the time. "Real life has real problems. Like every family, we have personal challenges that we must overcome. Anyone who believes that life is not complicated just doesn't get it. The pressure of the yearlong public scrutiny reached its breaking point and so had I."

She added, "I love my husband, and he loves me. At no time has John hurt me or done anything other than try to protect me."
"

I've worked for a few police departments and my first job at one was handling people who came in, in the late hours and wanted to make reports, including women who came in for domestic abuse. They almost always recanted and refused to press charges, even though they were physically beaten up. Often their husbands would show up and take them home and be threating me at the police station if I even filed the report. Which of course, I would.
