Skeptical Iowa crowd puts Romney to the test

DENISON, Iowa — Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney found himself defending his conservative credentials today as a crowd of 75 people ate sweet rolls and sipped coffee at an "ask Mitt anything" breakfast.


Republican presidential hopeful, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, speaks during a campaign stop in Iowa.

Romney's status as a former governor of Massachusetts raised a "red flag" for Missouri Valley resident Kris Cunard, who asked Romney to explain what makes him conservative.

The candidate quickly fired off a laundry list of positions. He opposes same-sex marriage and abortion; he favors lower taxes and the right to bear arms.

"I guess I consider my roots pretty darned conservative," Romney said.
