ALLENTOWN | About 70 workers at four independent carriers that serve DHL joined the Teamsters, a union official said Friday.

Workers at E.D. Express and Supreme Delivery Service voted for the move this week, while employees last week ratified the union's presence at Jennings and Associates, according to Dennis Hower, vice president of Teamsters Local 773 in Allentown.

At a fourth company, Northeastern Express, the employer voluntarily recognized the workers' right to unionize, Hower said.

The four businesses are on Marcon Boulevard in Hanover Township, Lehigh County.

1. At last a battle won in the war against the unions, but beware the war still goes on!

THE ATTACK ON THE UNIONS THAT BEGAN IN THE 80'S UNDER the REGAN days continues even though small battles are won, as in this story. As I read this story, I am listing to PBS news and the union negotiations between the autoworkers and the automakers is the story. All the years off job loss and lose of salaries is not enough. the corporations need more concessions from the union. I heard nothing except the usual "we made the wrong type cars (all terrain vehicles, hummers, etc...) which was what I heard in the 80's ( muscle cars of 70's big sedans of 70-89 etc...). So I guess it goes like this the guys at the top make bad decisions. they get golden retirements and big new jobs and more NEW guys at the top come in make the same stupid mistakes and the answer is the same each time. You union guys really have to give something up. Why don't we give up the idea that any giving up on the part of a union will ever stop mismanagement at the top.

People learn through experience. And we have experienced this before. In many forms and very recently. What did one of the UNION officials say when asked by the news person about STRIKE? "Oh what good would that do?" I almost fell out of my toenails.

Does this sound familiar to anyone else? Giving up your best tool against a much more powerful force?

Somethings are done not be cause we want to but because we know that if we do not, things will just keep getting worse and worse. You can negotiate. try to reason, but if you have no recourse you need the tools of strike and/or impeachment. You can see why the neo-cons don't like them. They give power to the powerless. Unfortunately people have to be joined together as in a union, to strike. But the forefathers gave us the RIGHT to IMPEACH. If our REPRESENTATIVES will not do it, hen we put others in who will. Do not delude yourself into thinking that these to things are not related. They most assuredly are. The fight for the people who have no or little power against the people and institutions, interested only in power, around us everyday is the real freedom call of all good hearted people, powerful or not.
