Sen. Feingold proposes censuring Bush

WASHINGTON - Liberal Democratic Sen. Russ Feingold said Sunday he wants Congress to censure President Bush for his management of the Iraq war and his "assault" against the Constitution.

But Feingold's own party leader in the Senate showed little interest in the idea. An attempt in 2006 by Feingold to censure Bush over the warrantless spying program attracted only three co-sponsors.

Feingold, a prominent war critic, said he soon plans to offer two censure resolutions — measures that would amount to a formal condemnation of the Republican president.

The first would seek to reprimand Bush for, as Feingold described it, getting the nation into war without adequate military preparation and for issuing misleading public statements. The resolution also would cite Vice President Dick Cheney and perhaps other administration officials.

the following is what i wrote , my letter to Russ Feingold
fly

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

To the Honorable Congressman Russ Feingold,

I want impeachment because I want my child to know there were Americans who tried to stop these criminals in this White House!

I want history books to show that there were Americans that were staunchly opposed to what this admin did to their rights..

I want History books to show that there was a strong voice to opposing this war..( I am sorry but censure means nothing to these criminals!!) and torture , and spying on Americans..destroying Habeas Corpus, destroying our judicial system and the powers of Congress. I want history to show that we the people were lied ..not mislead , but lied into an unjust criminal war!

I want that duly noted in every history book..that we the people, did not sit idly by while the destruction of our democracy occurred!

If that means we only get impeachment through congress and not the senate..so be it..but dang it, I want our voices..the voices of 70% on the record forever!!

If Russ, you or Pelosi or any of you in Congress can't handle that..you need to get out of the way!!

This Democratic congress, your Democratic Congress Russ, ARE SITTING WITH A 14% APPROVAL..WHY?????????

Because you are not doing what we the people want..you are not there for your career!!

You Russ are there to represent what we the people want..not how much you can get from lobbyists and what lobbyists want..but what we the people want..

If this congress can not protect our Constitution, as it is laid out in the constitution, and if you can not do the people's job..then many of you need to leave..

If 14% is what you believe dictates what the people want..well, then we are all sold out to 14% of the electorate..

..and I will never put up another dime to anyone in the Democratic party..I will not knock on another door, I will not work another phone bank..I will not do another damn thing to get any of you Democratic people elected again..You will not be representing my democratic values !

I will look for new people to oppose you ..all of you!

It seems very simple to me..and this Congress wants to muddy the waters..saying its impossible..we can't get the votes..blah blah blah...

Well you don't know, until you do it..I WOULD RATHER LOSE TRYING, THAN TO NEVER HAVE TRIED AT ALL..I WANT THAT IN THE HISTORY BOOKS!! THAT WE TRIED TO STOP THESE CRIMINALS!!
THOSE ARE MY VALUES YOU ARE PLAYING WITH CONGRESSMAN FEINGOLD!!

You don't know until all the electorate knows the truth of what is going on..period!
WITH THIS CURRENT MEDIA, THE AMERICAN PUBLIC IS THE LEAST AWARE OF WHAT IS GOING ON!

OUR VERY CONGRESS IS NOW BEING MADE DEFUNCT BY THIS ADMINISTRATION..IS THAT OK WITH YOU CONGRESSMAN FEINGOLD??..IT IS NOT OK WITH ME..NOT BY A LONG SHOT!!

I want impeachment ..and I have held back until the past couple weeks..I was willing to give the powers of the people we elected , the benefit of the doubt ..of how to approach this...but no more..

I want my grandchildren one day to know, there were many, many Americans that were fighting to stop this admin and all their lies and stealing OUR VERY CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS,and cheating and most of all..murdering human beings.

I feel shame of my country today..I feel disgust..I feel anger..and I want that reflected in history books ... what this Congress does in my name, about the malfeasance and crimes and murder of this administration!!!!

In other words I want accountability!! and now!!

So Russ, CENSURE?? ..is not good enough..it is a joke..either impeach or get out ..now!!

I will withold my thousands and thousands of hours of volunteer services to the Democratic party, if you censure over impeachment.

Elected Democratic Delegate for the State of Florida

3. But Reid said he would not go along with them (Feingold's proposals)

.........Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said Feingold's proposals showed the nation's frustration. But Reid said he would not go along with them and said the Senate needs to focus on finishing spending bills on defense and homeland security.

"We have a lot of work to do," Reid said. "The president already has the mark of the American people — he's the worst president we ever had. I don't think we need a censure resolution in the Senate to prove that."

As for the Senate's top Republican, "I think it's safe to say Russ Feingold is not a fan of George Bush. I think that's the best way to sum that up," said Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky.

Feingold spoke on NBC's "Meet the Press." Reid appeared on "Face the Nation" on CBS, while McConnell was on "Late Edition" on CNN.

5. Fuck censure
Being subtle does not work with these criminals.

They are either at your throat or at your feet, like a vicious animal. And how the US Dept. of Agriculture dealt with two coyotes In Golden Gate Park recently when they developed tendencies to attack people is how we have deal with these authoritarian types.

Not only that, but we're way past censure now. What Clinton did, that was censure-worthy. This... is felonious.

10. I think we need to seriously start thinking about taking away ruggy
or maybe a time-out, or would that be too harsh?

Serious times call for serious measures, but might a censure be a too much?

17. Bush is a psychopath. The types of sanctions that society imposes
on normal people when they engage in bad behavior are of no concern to him. He is incapable of feeling embarrassment or shame.

The only remedy for someone like Bush is to put him on trial for his many crimes against humanity and, if found guilty, incarcerate him for life. Even this wouldn't cause him to reflect on what he's done, but at least we'd be rid of him.

19. It's the Constitution, Stupid!
A censure ("You hurt my feelings") isn't going to mean squat. The problem is not Bush or even Cheney. The problem is that they are backed by forces that have wanted to undo our form of government for decades. Bush/Cheney just happen to be the latest tools in that quest.

Without impeachment we are saying, "We agree with what you are doing." This is what happened the 2004 election. Prior to that event the international press headlines read "Bush Says..." or "Bush Does..." Since he was re-elected (their perception, not ours) the other countries concluded that the American people approved of Bush's actions, and the headlines changed to "U.S, Says..." or "U.S. Does..." Silence equals consent.

The Congress and the people must be taught that what is at stake isn't this presidency; it is the Constitution and the form of government we have enjoyed for more than 225 years.

In 1992, Clinton's battle cry was, "It's the Economy, Stupid!" Today the stakes are even higher. Our unified purpose -- Democrats and Republicans alike -- must be the preservation of the Constitution.

If we want to save our nation from the current constitutional crisis, the remedy is set forth in the Constitution: The House impeaches, the Senate tries, and once found guilty they are removed from Office. Any subsequent prosecutions and convictions for breaking U.S. laws or engaging in crimes against humanity are unrelated to the impeachment process. That's not the purpose of impeachment.

It's the Constitution, Stupid!

20. SAD: With Clinton, GOP called for impeachment, Dems tried to back it down to censure
So Feingold's remedy essentially reduces Bush & Cheney's offenses to the level of Clinton lying about porking an intern.

What the fuck is wrong with these week kneed babies. Russ talks the tough talk then offers up some milk toast as a punishment. I just give up on these clowns. If no one is going to protect the American people and the constitution from this illegal administration, we are all toast. All the bimbos in DC took oaths to protect the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic. So what do they do? Propose censure! Bullshit is what I say, I am tired of all this pussing out. I demand accountability from all in DC.

IMHO, they're also beyond impeachment. What they are ready for is war crimes trials at the Hague. But nothing will happen - no censure, no impeachment, no trials.

Feingold censure move is hot topic

Kristin Czubkowski — 7/23/2007 12:13 pm

Sen. Russ Feingold is turning to the Internet for reactions to his most recent call to censure President Bush, proposed Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press."

Shortly after the show, Feingold posted a diary entry on the left-leaning blog the Daily Kos, saying "The last time I posted on Daily Kos, it certainly generated a lot of interest. As always, I appreciate how honest and passionate the Daily Kos community is about the issues that matter, and even when we don't agree it was important to have the civil exchange that we did."

Daily Kos readers again took up that "civil exchange," flooding Feingold's entry with comments. As of 10 a.m. today, the entry had generated more than 1,000 comments to the senator, more than any other entry from the same time period on the site.

Feingold also explained in his entry the differences between last year's censure resolution and the two he plans to introduce in the Senate within the next few weeks. Unlike last year's resolution, which focused specifically on illegal wiretapping, Feingold said these two would be "broad resolutions," with the first focusing on the administration's handling of the war in Iraq and the second focusing on the "rule of law" at home, which would include last year's wiretapping charges..........
