Ceremony to mark de Menezes death
Source: BBC

The second anniversary of the shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes is to be marked by a ceremony on Sunday.

The Brazilian was shot dead at Stockwell Tube station on 22 July 2005 by police who had mistakenly identified him as a suicide bomber.

Relatives of Mr de Menezes, along with friends and campaigners, will gather at the station at 1000 BST (0900 GMT).

---

On Friday night an image of the Brazilian - accompanied by the words "Two Years, No Justice" - was beamed on to the side of the Houses of Parliament.

1. DU ought to reflect on how many of us refused
to admit, for quite some time, that this was a completely unjustified and deliberate police summary execution of the unfortunate de Menezes. We should reflect on how important it is in these sorry times to think critically, to not be fooled by the endless efforts to cow us with fear and terror, into supporting fascism and tyranny.

2. The thing I take away from it is that the authorities that are supposedly
"protecting" me are violent, incompetent fuckwits. But then government has always been more or less a protection racket.

3. Indeed. So starting from that assumption
one should look for facts that falsify the base assumption that they are violent incompetent fuckwits, rather than grasping at straws to find any justification for gapingly stupid brutality.

5. Reminds me of an apt description of the later Ottoman Empire...
..."brutality humanized by stupidity". I hope de Menezes' family never lets go of this.
