US agency downplays memo flagging airport terror threat

WASHINGTON (AFP) - The Transportation Security Administration on Wednesday sought to downplay concerns over an internal memo in which it raised concerns about a possible increased terror risk at US airports.

But the TSA itself later said the warning was routine and should not be misconstrued as a response to a credible threat.

"This bulletin is not classified nor does it contain secret material," the agency wrote in a separate posting which appeared on its website.

"It is for official use only and is commonly shared with law enforcement partners, Federal Air Marshals and our transportation security officer workforce. There is no intelligence that indicates a specific or credible threat to the homeland," the TSA said.
