Therapist Gets 45 Years for Abusing Kids

SAN DIEGO (AP) - A former respiratory therapist at a children's hospital was sentenced to more than 45 years in prison Wednesday for molesting five disabled children and taking pornographic photographs of others.

Prosecutors said Wayne Albert Bleyle targeted patients who were comatose, brain-damaged or too disabled to speak. At his sentencing hearing, he would not look at the victims' weeping relatives, instead staring straight ahead or casting his eyes down at the table in front of him.

"I just want you to know it doesn't matter what you say or how many years you spend in jail - it's not going to be enough," parent Lillian Godfrey told him. "I don't think you have a soul. You're just an empty human shell."

Bleyle, 56, told investigators he molested as many as half the children he treated in his 10 years working in the convalescent ward at Rady Children's Hospital in San Diego.

Even if they keep him in protective custody, the split second that the other prisoners find a way to get at him, this guy is probably going to die in a very, very painful way. Prison populations regard child molesters with even more contempt than do normal people. There's no way he'll last 45 years--I doubt he'll make it five.

Before anyone starts calling me "pro-molester", they should keep in mind that a lot of victims of vicious sexual abuse are upset by the screaming outrage, too. Protecting their abusers is not on their mind. It works like PTSD for some of them, triggering bad memories.

The System worked. 45 years in prison is an appropriate punishment. Bubba's services will not be required.

Death is what he and all child rapists deserve. If there was any justice at all in this they'd put him in gen-pop with the wolves but no, that would be "cruel".

Is that because the cell phones could be used by sickos to take photographs of the children, or is there another reason?
