Documents Contradict Gonzales' Testimony

Documents show that eight congressional leaders were briefed about the Bush administration's terrorist surveillance program on the eve of its expiration in 2004, contradicting sworn Senate testimony this week by Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.

The documents, obtained by The Associated Press, come as senators consider whether a perjury investigation should be opened into conflicting accounts about the program and a dramatic March 2004 confrontation leading up to its potentially illegal reauthorization.

A Gonzales spokesman maintained Wednesday that the attorney general stands by his testimony.

At a heated Senate Judiciary Committee hearing Tuesday, Gonzales repeatedly testified that the issue at hand was not about the terrorist surveillance program, which allowed the National Security Agency to eavesdrop on suspects in the United States without receiving court approval.

Impeachment is the only constitutional tool left to hold the Bush regime accountable. Democrats can issue whatever they want to issue, but Bush has called Pelosi and Conyers' bluff. Bush has ordered DOJ to not prosecute contempt citations, and he has ordered witnesses to not appear. The judiciary is populated by Federalist Society judges. Without impeachment there is no recourse to Bush's law breaking.

that AGAG is now saying, that if this wasn't discussed at the briefing then there appears to be another program that this administration has put into action that people in meeting had issues with...

and if that's the case, what else is going on, and how can we hold them accountable for all of this.

I am scared to think about how many other activities that they have going on that are illegal and unconstitutional.

You shouldn't be allowed to conduct criminal enterprises and cloak racketeering, election manipulation, the politicizing of the justice department the rape of our national treasury and the destruction of our actual treasure, the real heros of this war, in the name of national security or behind executive privilege

You would think, that after all the other immoral and unethical things that we already know about the

Well what about the media? Where have they been? From what little I see on TV, it's all madison avenue and Hollywood at this point, they should all no longer be allowed to include the word NEWS in the show unless they actually broadcast some.

No hasty moves here. Best to go on vacation. Think about it. Offer Gonzo multiple opportunities to revise his sworn testimony, ask him back in for another round, ask for more documents, ask to talk to his underlings, ponder what to do about the refusal to cooperate, consider the perjury charges, talk with the inside the beltway strategeristas, wonder why that annoying Sheehan woman is pounding on your office door screaming "I beg you to do something to end this madness now", and, after decades of risk-aversion behavior, decide to not decide to do anything. Yes that would be the path of wisdom.
