27 Jul 2007 13:48:16 GMT

By Kamran Haider

ISLAMABAD, July 27 (Reuters) - A suicide bomb attack in
a restaurant near Islamabad's Red Mosque complex on Friday
killed at least 11 people and wounded 43, Khalid Pervez,
the top administrator in the city, said.

The mosque had been the centre of a protest by Islamist
radicals earlier in the day.

"Yes, it was a suicide attack," Pervez told Reuters.

Pakistan has suffered a spate of suicide attacks by Islamist
militants since a military operation to crush Taliban style
movement at Red Mosque, of Lal Masjid, earlier this month.

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (AP) - Hundreds of students clashed
with security forces and a nearby explosion killed at least
four people Friday during the reopening of Islamabad's Red
Mosque for the first time since a bloody army raid to oust
Islamic militants from the complex.

The blast struck the Muzaffar Hotel, in a market area about
a quarter mile from the mosque. Video from Pakistan's Geo
television showed bystanders and police carrying about six
victims - many bleeding or badly burned, with their clothing
in tatters - out of the wreckage to waiting ambulances.
