Department of Labor Touts Advantages of Hiring People with Disabilities

As announced by the U.S. Department of Labor in a press release today in Washington, the U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao will release a new video on how time and money can be saved in small businesses and how higher productivity can be achieved if the employers recruit, hire and advance employees who have disabilities.

Thursday was the 17th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. It is being offered as a tool to help in employing people with disabilities. The video features a meeting of small business owners which was recently held, in which they discuss how employees with disabilities have been advantageous for their business. They have been good leaders and they are committed to their job. They are innovative and proactive and they have helped to profit the employers. Secretary Chao of the U.S. Department of Labor further stated that though a lot of progress has been made in the last 17 years since the Americans with Disabilities Act came into existence, there should be still more recognition of workers with disabilities, and they should be encouraged to become an important part of the working population. This is a message especially for the employees. The video goes to show that employing people with disabilities in indeed a smart business strategy.

Does that mean disabled people should work for less because they're so grateful they have a job?
