Breaking: Cheney discharged from hospital
Source: CNN

Instead of getting a battery change, they completely changed out his unit to a new
one.

No link yet.

IMHO they 'lied' to us. They could have said he was going to get a new one, but instead they told us it was to be a battery change.

No link yet.

1. It's Always A Whole New Unit - And They Have To Stop His Heart To Test It
You can't just replace the batteries in these units.

Also note that they need to "stop" the heart in order to set the defibrillator properly. Just imagine the power in the hands of the doctor doing this...

Upgrading the entire unit. He's got better, probably smaller, and longer life on the new unit. I wouldn't be surprised if the previous one was thrashed with his track record.

Cheney gets new battery for heart device

By DEB RIECHMANN, Associated Press Writer 20 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - Vice President Dick Cheney on Saturday had minor surgery to receive a new battery for an implanted device that monitors his heart rhythms, his spokeswoman said.

"The device was successfully replaced without complication," Megan McGinn, the vice president's deputy press secretary.

Cheney, who has a history of heart problems, arrived with his wife, Lynne, in the morning for the procedure at George Washington University Hospital, and walked out about four hours later. He smiled and waved at photographers as he left.

Cheney returned to his home at the Naval Observatory and then resumed his normal schedule, McGinn said.

Doctors replaced the generator and battery part of the heart defibrillator. That device monitors Cheney's heart and would deliver an electric shock to reset the heart to normal rhythm if the heart ever went out of rhythm.

65. This Means The U.S. Will Attack Iran Soon?
Hey, why not? I'm getting bored with all of these defeats in Iraq and Afghanistan. Maybe we can just bomb them and not get involved in a land war where we always lose? I mean, first Korea then backing a failed invasion of Cuba, the disaster of Vietnam and now Iraq. Mabe we can get rid of the Vietnam-Iraq syndrome by turning Iran into a parking lot. Come to think of it, why not turn the whole world into a parking lot? Well, maybe that's a little extreme. Do you think we could win if we invaded Mexico? I'm not serious - just trying to get into the mind of Cheney.

many Americans have to wait until they are 65 to have insurance and get meds. Bu$h tells them to go to the ER, while he and Congress get the best medical care money can buy (for the best government money can buy--4 health care lobbyist for each member of Congress).

Tell Congress to pass H.R. 676 Now!

60. Cheney likes Johnny Cash? It's hard to believe.
It is funny how people can sometimes be drawn to artists who are so contrary to their own nature.

"What's on that iPod that Cheney was so eager to charge it up and put on the headphones?

The vice president's iPod library ranges from country to classical, according to an administration official.

He has a good amount of music from the 1940s and 1950s (oldies but goodies) and apparently is fond of Johnny Cash."
