Poland Not Yet Decided on Iraq Extension

Sunday, July 29, 2007; 8:36 AM

WARSAW, Poland -- Poland has not yet decided whether to
extend its military mission in Iraq beyond the end of the year,
the president said Sunday.

"It depends on a lot of factors, above all on how the situation
there is going to develop and how our cooperation with the
United States is going to shape up," President Lech Kaczynski
said on the sidelines of an anniversary ceremony of the
Warsaw ghetto uprising against the Nazis, the PAP news
agency reported.

Poland, a staunch U.S. ally, contributed troops to the 2003
U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, and has since led a multinational
division south of Baghdad. Some 900 Polish troops are
stationed there training Iraqi personnel.

Last year, the government extended its mission in Iraq until
the end of 2007, and a decision on whether to stay past
that date is expected in the coming months.

1. It's one of the strangest events in modern history
That of all countries in the world, the Polish people took part
in the illegal invasion of a sovereign nation and the killing
of several hundred thousands innocent people.

One should have expected, that as a nation who experienced the
horrors of being attacked and overrun by a reckless military
power, they would've refrained from taking part in a war of aggression.

I guess that money was the reason why they participated in this illegal
war. If I remember correctly, the Polish foreign minister explained the
participation of his country with the wish to access oil sources in
the Middle East, or something like that. :-(

6. Very sad what greed does to once great nations:
Gotta wonder what they got on him ...

It seems that Bush, Cheney and their henchmen only need to promise
a profit to make nations, which were once admired for their courage,
to take part in the biggest crime according to international law.
It's especially sad regarding Poland, which - according to his history -
should know, that these kind of crimes never end well for those
who commit them.

Poland seeks Iraqi oil stake

Poland, which has sent troops to support the US-led forces in Iraq, has acknowledged its "ultimate objective" is to acquire supplies of Iraqi oil.

The Polish Foreign Minister, Wlodzimierz Cimoszewicz, said his country had never disguised the fact that it sought direct access to the oilfields.

He was speaking as a group of Polish firms signed a deal with a subsidiary of US Vice President Dick Cheney's former company, Halliburton.
