White House OKs Tillman case interviews

WASHINGTON - The White House has agreed to let congressional
investigators interview three former presidential assistants in an
inquiry into what the administration knew about the friendly-fire
death of Army Ranger Pat Tillman in Afghanistan.

The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee has
agreed to certain conditions in order to conduct the interviews
with Dan Bartlett, a former presidential counselor; Scott McClellan,
former press secretary; and Michael Gerson, a former
speechwriter.

The interviews will be conducted without a transcript and in the
presence of White House counsel, according to a letter from
Chairman Henry Waxman, D-Calif., to White House counsel Fred
Fielding.

Waxman's committee has been probing why the true circumstances
of Tillman's 2004 death were concealed for five weeks while the
public and Tillman's family were led to believe he died at the hands
of the enemy. Waxman has sought evidence indicating knowledge
top Defense Department and White House officials may have had
knowledge of it.

He presided over a hearing Wednesday where former Defense
Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and other former Pentagon brass
denied any cover-up.

3. What the hell good is this?
The interviews will be conducted without a transcript

I suppose these "interviews" will be conducted in private and without administering oaths. So how are we going to know what happened? Whatever leaks out will just be denied by the White House...

4. No transcript - and I doubt that they'll be under oath
And if they are, no one will be able to recall anything...

9. The terms set a bad precedent. It just gives them a free shot
They can make self-serving statements with no jeopardy.

8. Like all the other hearings and interviews.. it will lead to... are you ready? Are you sure?
NOT an effing thing.

Call me cynical, but really.. does anyone expect that any of these propagandists and Bush supporters will actually admit to an effing thing?
