Senators block Nussle's confirmation vote

Washington, D.C. — Former Rep. Jim Nussle’s nomination to be White House budget director has run into trouble in the Senate.

The Senate Budget Committee voted 22-1 today to approve the Iowa Republican’s nomination, but at least two senators had placed holds on the nomination, blocking the full Senate from taking a final vote.

Sen. Bernard Sanders, a Vermont independent who cast the lone vote against Nussle in the budget committee, said President Bush was “way out of touch with reality” in thinking the economy is good and needed a budget director who will tell him otherwise.

Sanders said he “would love to hear from Mr. Nussle and the White House that instead of simply paying attention to the needs of the wealthiest people in this country that they are serious about addressing the concerns of the middle class and working families.”

2. Go Bernie!
Now if Democrats acted like Bernie, a Socialist, and Kucinich and the Black Caucus, maybe the Congress would become respected again!

12. Bernie is an Independent

The Democrats?

Complicit... Spineless... Compromised?

What do you think? Who in DC really has your back? Your own Representative/Senator? Unlikely, even if it is a Democrat that you helped get elected.

I think that the Demos in power have been gaming their adherents shamelessly for many years now or we wouldn't all be in such deep doo doo.

We are losing out to a fascist takeover spearheaded by the (not so) Christian Right. They want a theocracy with no dissent.

Get used to it, or get busy, wake-up and spread the alert. The fascists are here and taking control.

Have fun... Whoops, fun is out, no longer allowed.

Back to your shit job and shut up!

19. I heard that also, but have not seen anything definite.
Joe Biden says anyone needing to go before his Foreign Relations Committee will not get a recess appointment. That statement tells me Sen. Reid has not put in place this policy Senate wide.

20. I'm not sure he can do a recess appointment if he's on hold
Isn't that why he withdrew Sam Fox for confirmation before his recess appointment? Not that there was a hold on him but I am sure Kerry was considering it.

Anyone know the rules on this?

14. Kick and REcommend
Yes, if Nussle is voted down and Congress goes on vacation who will *ush put in place? Here's hoping that Reid follows through with his stated plan to keep the House in session the prevent this.

15. Reid has prolly already made other plans.
I haven't heard lately what the status was for him keeping the Senate open during recess to prevent recess appointments, but with the way the Dems are caving lately, I would guess he's made other plans.

so he's not curling up in a ball moaning because the dems suffered a defeat. He's going to continue to fight.
