2 Charged With Pipe Bombs Near Navy Base

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (AP) — Two men found with several pipe bombs in their car near a Navy base were charged Monday with possession of an explosive device, authorities said.

A joint state-federal investigation was under way to see whether there was any terrorism connection, said FBI spokeswoman Denise Taiste, but no link had been found. The Navy base is the site of a brig where enemy combatants have been held.

Ahmed Abda Sherf Mohamed, 24, and Yousef Samir Megahed, 21, both students at the University of South Florida in Tampa, were driving through the area on Saturday to vacation at a North Carolina beach for Mohamed's birthday, their defense attorney said.

"They admitted to having what they said were fireworks. Based on the officer's judgment at hand, based on what he had seen, we judged it to be other than fireworks," Berkeley County Sheriff Wayne DeWitt said.

These men claim that they had fireworks.. I can believe that. Apparently he disassembled some fireworks and made his own concoction. Any person in this country could be charged with this crime simply for taping many Sparklers or fireworks together, Emptying the gun powder from Firecrackers, having too many bottle rockets, etc. etc. They sell these fireworks openly in South Carolina, EVERYWHERE!

I am not saying these men didn't have criminal intentions, I am just pointing out that anyone can be charged with this crime for the mishandling of fireworks. Watch your backs America!

That seems to be the important thing here. Clearly the article leads with a statement that they were carrying "pipe bombs", then goes on to say that they admitted to having "fireworks"....Hmmm, not much balance in that article then.

Former Oklahoma City mayor Kirk Humphreys, a Republican, helped Charles Alfred Dreyling, 24, get out of jail last week after he was arrested carrying a pipe bomb into Will Rogers World Airport.

Dreyling told authorities that he had made the device and said it was “basically a pipe bomb,” according to an affidavit. Dreyling said he built the device for entertainment value, never intending to hurt anyone, and forgot that it was in his carryon bag when he brought it to the airport, the affidavit said.

Dreyling said he learned as a teenager how to build homemade explosives from Web sites like “The Anarchist’s Cook Book.” Dreyling said he has built and detonated several explosive devices for recreational purposes, according to the affidavit. — Airport Business

Based in part on Humphreys’ testimony, Dreyling was released to the custody of his mother on $10,000 bail. If convicted, Dreyling faces up to 10 years in prison and up to a $250,000 fine.

Since 9-11, there's only been one case of actually finding someone with an explosive device trying to board an airplane.{other than "The Shoe Bomber"} The IED, or improvised explosive devise was in the possession of this swarthy Muslim, white guy, 24 year old Charles Alfred Dreyling Jr. who tried to board a plane for Philladelphia last Wednesday at Oklahoma City's Will Rodgers airport with the device in his luggage.



(not to mention good old Timmy McVeigh, and Eric Rudolph, both responsible for home-grown terrorism, and both lily white.)

We can only thank the stars that at least the looney right doesn't get all of their stupid idea put into practice.

Take a look at Charlie Dreyling. Cute kid, right? Shoe salesman, lifeguard...interests are playing soccer, fishing, and, ah, FLYING AIRPLANES. I'm sure he didn't mean to bring his homemade bomb with him to the airport. No sir.

I'm from Oklahoma and actually went to high school (PCN) with charley dreyling, and i'm a little confused on what you mean by following up on him?

I've known him since middle school, and I can assure you it was a 100% misunderstanding. It's really interesting to me, because you hear about cases and media sensational stories like this from time to time, and I tend to believe roughly what I hear, but to actually see it happen to someone you know and know for a fact that it had nothing to do with terrorism of any sort (he's a preppy white kid, and its absolutely absurd to think he had any reason or ability to do what some assumed).


I really learned something about how the media can totally make people deadset on thinking they know what really happened, when in reality they are so off that it is incredible they are talking about the same person.

Let me state again. there is 0 chance that he had ANY intent to harm anyone AT ALL. I've known him half my life, and i guaruntee you it was a bonehead move after him and his other preppy friends had been/planned on blowin shit up in the country for laughs, nothing more...
