Facebook insults of customers spark sacking threat
Edited on Tue Aug-07-07 06:55 AM by Thankfully_in_Britai
Source: Daily Telegraph

Several employees of the directory inquiries company 118 118 are facing the sack after they set up a group on the social networking site Facebook dedicated to trading insults about their customers.

One member of the group – I Survived 118 118 – claims that he took customer numbers and wrote them on the walls of a public toilet, while others discuss the stupidity of the callers they had to deal with. All of the comments could be read by any fellow member of Facebook, which has millions of members around the world.

The inquiries company has been attempting since May to remove the group from the Facebook website, saying it was defamatory but only got it taken down today.

It was unclear if it was Facebook itself or one of the members of I survived 118 118 that was responsible for its removal.

1. Employees need an outlet to vent their frustrations, but this was not the best solution.
Violating the company's privacy policies to publicly humiliate and defame your customers, while casting your employer in a bad light, is really un-cool.

2. Idiots.
I knew someone who complained about her boss on her livejournal page and was stupid enough to post a photo of her and her dog. One of her coworkers saw it and turned her in to HR. She wasn't fired, but she was repremanded. She eventually transferred to another city.

3. Yes, with social networking sites...
what you choose not to reveal can be as important as what you do. I for one don't nessessarily want people to know if I've had a bad day at work, or if I'm feeling unwell or grumpy for instance.

And while we are on the subject of Facebook, here is the link for the DU Facebook group!

5. Facebook groups for Live Journal?
Well there are a few of those on there for those of you with Facebook accounts, although there do seem to be more groups labelling LiveJournal as "Emo". :eyes:
