Telluride impeachment vote reaps storm
Source: Denver Post

Moonbats. Lunatics. Boobs. Bong smokers. Left-bots. Those insults and more are being heaped on the populace of Telluride after the Telluride Town Council became the first in Colorado to vote for an ordinance to impeach President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney.

The council hasn't even approved the symbolic measure on second reading, but that hasn't slowed a furious flurry of e-mails to the town and its newspapers and the cancellation of Telluride vacations by those who have no desire to schuss through politically tinged powder or share high-altitude air with "loony liberals."

In a country where a July poll found as many as 46 percent of Americans favor impeachment, Neil Young is singing "Let's Impeach the President," and online stores are selling "impeach" baby bibs, wall clocks and doggie shirts, Telluride is getting hit with a surprising amount of anti-impeachment venom.

"This kind of backlash? I don't know of it happening anywhere else," said David Swanson, Washington, D.C., director of Impeach PAC, a group that now lists more than 180 entities across the country that have passed impeachment measures.

I thought this "boycott anyone/anything that dares oppose Bush" craze was over long ago.

1. Tempest in a teapot?
Somehow, I don't think this "protest" is all it's cracked up to be.

good riddance to the wing bats, pukes, et al.....Colorado and Telluride are better without them.

Don't let the door hit you in the a$$ on the way out!

Now if we can only get the rest of colorado to pass the same measure!

3. Colorado is home to some religious fundies
I'd guess that's where it's coming from. It may be Colorado Springs? I believe focus on the family, or some other group is headquartered up there.

I'm sure if a few people cancel their Telluride vactions, many more will take their place. Ever been there? It's beautiful!

7. Telluride is wonderful!
From the surroundings to the bluegrass festival to the wonderful people. There are always big name bands coming through. There are shelves built on the wall of a side street where you can deposit your unwanted clothes for others to pick up. Organic food stores everywhere. It is a very left-leaning town. Let the wacko fundies stay in Colorado Springs. I doubt many ski anyway. Those that do can go to Aspen.

8. VACATION IN TELLURIDE FOR IMPEACHMENT
What happens when a principled town government in Colorado takes a stand for impeachment, and some right wing nut tourists threaten not to vaction there?

SUPPORTERS OF IMPEACHMENT WHO VACATION SHOULD VACATION IN TELLURIDE

And let the newspaper know you are doing so because you appreciate this Colorado town taking a stand for impeachment!

21. You and me both
Just cam't afford a trip like that anytime soon. I wish we had gone there a few years ago when we had more vactaion $$$. Maybe I can get somewhere closer (like Red River, NM) to go for impeachment, that's a more doable trip. Not likely, though.

12. How many of the "Cancelled" Vacations Were Booked Just for That Purpose?
The reich obviously wants to make an example of Telluride, so they have their attack dogs in the media ginning up a "backlash".

I would imagine that their stance would attract more visitors than it would repel.

I can't help them much, I don't ski.

14. Don't have to ski to enjoy the place
It's gorgeous (and safer!) in summertime. Hiking, biking, shopping, whatever. We prefer to go in summertime because I REALLY don't like driving in snow and ice. Film festival, mushroom festival, shoot, practically every week there is another festival of some kind.

My sister and her hubby live there and it's like a little piece of heaven on earth.

18. I have a cabin in Ouray, just across Red Mountain from Telluride
and I can tell you the whole damn town is NUTS anyway. Locals call Telluride the "keep away" city. The town is full of very young spoiled rotten rich yuppies who are actually paid by parents to live there and stay away from home. No kidding, this is the local rumor.

19. I've come to a conclusion
the only way bush/cheney will be impeached is if they were caught abusing a kitten or a puppy

20. Oral sex with a puppy or kitten.
Maybe. They'd probably just declare the li'l critter an enemy combatant, and the news networks would call it a victory over al-Qaeda.
