(CNN) Poll: Republicans starting to stand by Bush again
Source: CNN

WASHINGTON (CNN) — President Bush’s approval rating has gone up slightly since his all-time low in June, according to a new CNN/Opinion Research Corporation Poll released Thursday.

Bush’s approval rating in the latest poll was 36 percent, an increase from 32 percent in June. But CNN Polling Director Keating Holland explained that the improvement is entirely due to Republicans turning around and deciding to stand by their president.

“The gain in Bush’s approval is due entirely to Republicans coming home,” Holland said. “There was no change in the approval rating among Democrats or Independents between this poll and the last one, but Bush’s approval rating went up 16 points among Republicans since June.”

3. No, they're not stupid
We all saw the Democrats bowing down to Bush, and in the minds of his suppoters this shows that he's been right about the D's, that they are weak and won't fight for anything except to get re-elected.

By refusing to protect the Constitution from being violated the Democrats have shown that they lack the courage to make the hard decisions, and only seem to want to take the easy road, something that those who support the president find repulsive because they have convinced themselves that doing anything the easy way is wrong.

Hopefully after the summer recess the Democrats are ready to stand up and fight, but I won't hold my breath until it actually happens!

If it happens.

14. A Break Would be Nice
But the reality is that some people actually make their political decisions based on polls, because they are to deal with the real world. A good example would be that base that continues to support Bush regardless of what he does!

16. Frankly both parties, but especially the rePIGs, are taken over by
the corporatist filth pigs, who have their own agenda and are becomming ever so comfortable as actually ruling governments all over the world. Governments are infiltrated by corporatists like Bush, BushI and Reagan, and then the corporatists take over the governements. They have the corrupt media and its getting worse as the corporatist governement allows more consolodation. Look we are in fascism now. I would not be suprised if the Blue Dogs were not totally corrupt.

Edited on Thu Aug-09-07 10:37 AM by mikeytherat
Wow. G.W. really hit one out of the park, didn't he?

So this ratings increase which, given the margin of error may or may not exist, was driven solely by Republicans? A popularity increase, which may not exist, was driven by your own party?

Damn. Can you feel the love?

5. Let's not kid ourselves, DUers. A lot of Bush's poll improvement is due to the DEMOCRATS in Congress
They aren't standing up to him, they aren't opposing him. He's still getting what he wants. They subpoena, he ignores. They ask questions, his administration lies.

The American people are seeing this, and by the very act of not opposing and doing what they were elected to do, the Dems are giving Bush credibility and power.

It's a disgrace. The Dems f*ck up again. :(

they want to have a beer with him....his lack of intelligence doesn't intimidate them, because they can relate (being of rather low aptitude themselves...horrible generalization, but there you have it!). And for those who are smarter than him, it is the one issue thing....

So, not surprised at all!

Where would we be without our delightful corporate media talking points to tell us what to believe?

I'm increasingly convinced that at least a quarter of the American population is just beyond reach of reason (and the other 9-10% or so are personally enriched in one way or another by the fascism.)

13. Bush said today that Petraeus
will report in September that the "surge" is working in Iraq. And the economy in America is surging as well. MSM is reporting that defeatism of the Pelosi, Reid and Dems has prevented greater success in Iraq and on the war on terror.

The greatest threat to the Homeland is the opposition party. They are threatening to destroy the surging economy with higher taxes on the wealthy and corporations.

The emboldens their base, who see it as success for Bush and reinforces their hope that maybe he's been right this whole time.

Democrats in Congress are 100% responsible for this increase.

Edited on Thu Aug-09-07 06:44 PM by gulliver
Basically, Bush has bought himself and his GOP at least 10 months at a cost of about 1,000 military lives. It's a bargain for Bush and his GOP. America is doing all the paying, and it is not possible for the Bush and the GOP's political position to be any worse. It is all upside for them. To Bush and his GOP, it's a simple calculation: 1,000 working class strangers in flag-draped coffins vs. political survival for Bush and his GOP. If those dead can buy Bush and his GOP enough time to avoid blame for the disaster they caused, then it's worth it.

Hell, when September gets here, Bush and his GOP are already looking like they are going to order another round of the surge on America blood.

38. I wrote here back in February the media
would be the ones to watch when it came to whether this troop surge was working. Hell, I even went so far as to say, it does not even have to be working as the media will say that it is. For the past several days and into last week the msm was giving out little tidbits each day and night the surge was working. That was when they began reporting that the deaths of u s servicemen was lower then the previous month. Hell they even jumped the gun on that to get out the story the surge might be working. Hell, they even had to correct the death count all during the week. Not the media because they already had the count at 74 and did not correct it till after the second day into August and the final total was 81.....
Thus far in the first nine days of August we have suffered 25 Americans killed. If one goes back to 06 and looks at the toll in July it was 43 down 18 from 61 in June. In June of 05 there were 78 americans killed and 54 killed in July. Down 24. In 03 and 04 the reverse happened where there was more killed in July then in June.....This is just some background information...
If the press keeps telling the same story over and over then more people will believe it and even though it is 80% false most will believe it is 80% true. So, I blame the media for any uptick in Bush approval, and if you will look closely at the poll the dems and the indies stayed the same. It is the repubs that are buying into this falsehood....
So, whenever you get a chacne to dispute the surge is working and they come at you with less soldiers were killed in July then June then you can say, there was no surge in 06 and the same happened then....

I do thank you
Ben David

Those who are ashamed of Bush are probably now identifying themselves as "independents" when they are polled. That would only leave a larger percentage of hard core supporters who would still admit to being Republicans.
