McClatchy: Cheney urging military strikes on Iran
Source: McClatchy Newspapers

WASHINGTON — President Bush charged Thursday that Iran continues to arm and train insurgents who are killing U.S. soldiers in Iraq, and he threatened action if that continues.

... Behind the scenes, however, the president's top aides have been engaged in an intensive internal debate over how to respond to Iran's support for Shiite Muslim groups in Iraq and its nuclear program. Vice President Dick Cheney several weeks ago proposed launching airstrikes at suspected training camps in Iraq run by the Quds force, a special unit of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, according to two U.S. officials who are involved in Iran policy.

... Cheney, who's long been skeptical of diplomacy with Iran, argued for military action if hard new evidence emerges of Iran's complicity in supporting anti-American forces in Iraq; for example, catching a truckload of fighters or weapons crossing into Iraq from Iran, one official said.

The two officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to talk publicly about internal government deliberations.

4. Yeah but what about
all the bastards with deep pockets that WE have armed? Why the hell should Iran be singled out? The US is the largest arms dealer in the world (Israel is #2!). Should we launch a preemptive strike on OURSELVES?

22. Darth dic-ktraitor SOLD (illegally, what's new?) stuff to Iran when...
...he was CEO of helleeeeburton (was convicted and fined for it).

His (PNAC) plan was to accuse them of using what he SOLD them as an excuse to bomb them...

5 deferments, hey?

It is even debatable that the US is number one (it goes back and forth with Russia).

5. Invading Iran is now Cheney's NUMBER ONE objective..
He is working on this full time now. He turns over and over different scenarios that would get us to throw a bunch of missiles into Iran. It would remove the last remaining bricks of the dam that is stopping WWIII.

(If only there was another major attack in the US.. that would be perfect/i])

Intent on keeping war profits sky high for himself and his republicon cronies.

Cheney has five (5) freaking military deferments. Shameful that he would be so eager to send others off to fight and die for his lies.

10. of course he is - right on schedule. The dollar is in the toilet and the cons hear
the Archie Bunker toilet flush. Dick needs a diversion, a big diversion. And soon.

A bright shiny new shock and awe campaign complete with lots of blathering about patriotism and supporting the troops will lull the sheeple back into their dazed complacency..

38. Or it will have them in their workplaces
with an extra wooden shoe.

I mean, sure, we are just too cowed to get into the streets, goddess knows the Soviets had a thirty or so year period of being cowed...

But the shoes went into the big ass gears a long time before they marched in red square. Once the consent of the governed is withdrawn, governance become increasingly difficult.

28. Yep, new batteries in his pacemaker and he is ready to go to war.
I'd like to think that Cheney is skeptical of diplomacy with anyone who won't do what he wants.

What hard "old" evidence did they have showing Iran's complicity in supporting anti-American forces in Iraq?

Rumor has it that Iranian Intelligence passed along the secret location of Guam to the Russians.

They have also begun to commit the most unfathomable treachery in the eyes of any neo-con oilman, they are rationing fuel! Imagine if conservation were to catch on! They need to be attacked before this vile idea is absorbed by the impressionable minds of Merkuns.

34. Dick can talk crap all he wants, it will never happen
If Iran gets bombed they shut off the straight, China's and the rest of the east and wests oil gets shut off as well. Then the Saud's, Japan and China will call in their loans they have with the USA. The USA has no money to pay so they have no more trading partners because you cannot trade on the world market if rest of world puts a freeze on your transactions untill they get paid . The rest of world shuts out the USA. The USA will have a hard time threatening anybody because what is left of the USSR will stand behind the others. The bombing or any other military action against Iran is suicide for the NeoCon cabal. The rest of world now see the USA as weak and vulnerable. * played the last card in Iraq and failed. The Rats will talk shit because they have painted themselves into a corner and really they have no other options left other than flapping their gums. Remember a 25% approval rate is not a real good place to gamble from anyway

The FISA bill demonstrated beyond a shadow ofa doubt that we're not going to get the neocons out of the WH and congress until we have another world war. Sadly, we're unable to have any affect on our "representatives" any more. The sooner we get to the end of this sad chapter in history the better.
