Dean's quick start due to gay support
Edited on Fri Jan-02-04 11:38 AM by cally
Former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean's record-setting fund raising first took off in large part because of an outpouring of support from the gay community.

With just one exception, every fund-raiser Dean attended outside Vermont in 2002 was organized by gay men and lesbians, as were more than half the events in the first quarter of 2003, according to Dean advisers.

"The early foundation of Governor Dean's presidential campaign -- both in fund raising and organization -- was built by the support of the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) community around the country," said Dean finance director Stephanie Schriock.

The gay community "was the first to recognize Dean's strength of character after his leadership on Vermont's civil union legislation, and because of that, they were the first to open up their homes for events and ask their friends and colleagues to give money to this endeavor," she added.

me feel. I was pleased when I first read the headline. Then the last post made me realize that it will be used against Dean. And even some of my fellow DU'ers look at homosexuals negatively.

I almost want to appologize for our support...but I wont. Because I'm not sorry. I'm pleased to see that we can come together as a group and support one person. Something the rest of the party has yet to do...to the delight of republicans.

6. I think this support works both ways
Edited on Fri Jan-02-04 12:19 PM by cally
It shows that the GLBT has come together to finance a candidate and has large financial resources. This could make it more difficult for Bush to attack the Dem candidate for support for Gay and Lesbian rights. On the other hand, I've thought for a long time that the Republicans will try to turn out their base on this issue. The early GLBT support for Dean if he's the nominee will work to turn out the fundies.

On edit: Dems just have to prepare a strategy to counter the Repug hate machine. I don't think most Americans will vote on hate alone.

8. OK
So with that logic, that means all the people who have contributed to the Dean campaign are all gay/lessies? Including myself? Wait a minute, let me check........... Nope I'm not gay, and my wife is not a lesbian, to my knowledge........Ouch! (just got whacked by the wife)

Brilliant spin from the RepubliCON machine.
