4 US soldiers killed, 4 wounded in Iraq

BAGHDAD - Four U.S. soldiers were killed and four
others were wounded by an explosion south of
Baghdad, the military said Sunday.

The blast struck the soldiers from Task Force Marne
Saturday during combat operations south of the
capital, the military said in a brief statement that
provided no more details.

Names of the soldiers were withheld pending
notification of relatives.

TIKRIT, Iraq – A Task Force Lightning Soldier died Friday
in a non-combat related incident, which is currently under
investigation.

The name of the deceased is being withheld pending
notification of next of kin and release by the Department
of Defense.

Five U.S. soldiers killed south of Baghdad
Sun Aug 12, 2007 3:25PM BST

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Five U.S. soldiers were killed, including four
in a single explosion, during combat operations south of Baghdad
on Saturday, the U.S. military said on Sunday.

Four other soldiers were wounded in the explosion but no other
details of the incident were immediately available.

In a separate statement, the U.S. military said a fifth soldier had
been killed by small arms fire while on foot patrol southeast of
Baghdad on Saturday.

The U.S. military said the soldiers were part of Task Force Marne,
which has deployed in areas south of Baghdad to stop the flow
of weapons, explosives and Shi'ite and Sunni Arab militants into
the capital.
