Aljazeera : Baghdad mosque raid yields arms cache
Friday 02 January 2004, 21:28 Makka Time, 18:28 GMT

US soldiers have seized a large cache of weapons in a raid on a Sunni mosque in southwestern Baghdad.

The occupation forces' deputy director of operations, Brigadier General Mark Kimmit said on Friday 32 people were arrested in the operation on Thursday, including foreign nationals.

Three packages of TNT explosives, a 60 mm mortar tube, eight improvised grenades, bomb-making equipment, two rocket-propelled grenade launchers, 11 assault rifles and two bags of gunpowder were among the weapons recovered in the raid, he told reporters.

"Over the last several months, the First Armoured Division in Baghdad has received numerous reports from local Iraqis that the Al-Tubul mosque had been used for criminal and terrorist activities," he said.

"The Al-Tubul mosque was believed to have been a hub of anti-coalition and anti-Iraqi activities, with various cells using the mosque as a meeting location and weapons cache," Kimmitt said.

1. For those surprised to see this in Al Jazeera
The subject of the meetings, the translator said, was 'US-Qatari relations in the light of the role Al-Jazeera has played in inciting anti-US sentiment'.

The US diplomat said the meetings of key members of the House of Representatives, the Senate, the Pentagon, the State Department, the CIA and the FBI reached a unanimous proposal on the second anniversary of the Sept 11 attacks: to advise Mr Bush to warn the Qatari government to close Al-Jazeera or, as a first step, to replace its journalists with others who are 'moderate and neutral'.

If Al-Jazeera failed to relook its news content, the committee was said to have concluded, the US would in turn have to reconsider its relations with Qatar - from where the US-led war on Iraq had been supervised.

Al-Siyasa said committee members had accused Al-Jazeera of being against both US foreign and domestic political interests..

There is no doubt that, under all this pressure, Al-Jazeera is toning down its anti-US rhetoric. There is evidently little room for the likes of Ridley, eager to promote anti-US and pro-Arab agendas.

3. Even then, look at the source for Al Jazeera...
Brigadier General Mark Kimmit. We have been told so many lies by Centcom, the * Administration and military spokesmen, that I take everything they say with a large grain of salt.

4. I read Al-Jazeera will be opening station in Japan
They can't shut up the truth. They don't have enough guns to "take over every square inch of the planet. Besides, this country is flat broke. Nobody will be able to be bullied with "sanctions" cause they know we don't have a pot to piss in.

2. That won't stop these people from defending themselves
against the "great Satan". There supply is endless. And there ain't enough of us to stop it. So if they think they just lock all the men women and kids uf, take away their guns, they're jobs they will able to continue the theft of a nation without any resistance, they need to put down the crack pipe. The entire Arab world will unite, just like all kinds of people united before the war. When someone as hated as bush does the evil to a poor nation the whole world will unite against him. And if earth quakes don't take us all out first, the people will organize the globe for a little free trade of another kind and kick that Cowards sorry ass in the same hole or smaller than the one their bro Saddam was in. And that will be televised too!!!!!!

5. I want you to be right soooo bad, I wish I could think you are, but

The rest of the world has let it get to this point.

The puppet UN chose not to exercise authorization of force to stop the crusade, it rubber-stamped the occupation, I could go on and on.

They are just sitting their with their finger in their ass waiting for the bombs to drop on THEM - all in the hopes of getting a dollar.

"Old Europe" made more of a stink about the regime's announcement that they would not be able to have any of the Iraqi peoples' money than they ever made about the damn crusade.

7. I know what you mean
Just look at how Libya told the US to shove it with their WMD declaration recently. It looks like the Arab world is grouping up to put the "great satan" in its place. The way Iran told to US to shove it when we tried to offer help for the quake victims is another sign.
