Arrested legislator stripped of power (Rep. Bob Allen)
Source: Miami Herald

<snip>

"House Speaker Marco Rubio on Wednesday stripped all power from a lawmaker who was arrested last month on solicitation charges, a move that increases the pressure on Rep. Bob Allen to resign from the Florida Legislature.

The Merritt Island Republican has insisted he is innocent of the charges, in which he allegedly offered $20 to perform oral sex on an undercover police officer. But on an audiotape of an interview with police, Allen said he felt intimidated by the officer because he was a "stocky black guy" and that he did not want to become another "statistic."

Rubio, a West Miami Republican, last week called the remarks "disturbing." On Wednesday he said that Allen can no longer "effectively serve the people of his district."

Rubio stripped Allen of his chairmanship of the House Energy Committee and removed him from a spot on the Environment and Natural Resources Council."

1. On the bright side, this is one republicon who was not into Diaper Sex
Edited on Wed Aug-15-07 04:08 PM by SpiralHawk
He was not part of the republican caucus that gave a STANDING OVATION
for someone who was into using prostitutes for Diaper Sex,
like the republicon members of the U.S. Senate.

So this guy is a republicon deviant, alright,
but (apparently) not a deranged diaper deviant
(one would fervently hope).

3. He's also a moral disaster, by opting to blame the whole thing on an officer's blackness.
Oh, yeah. The officer scared him so badly, being "stocky" and "black," he went wild and did something very few people would ever think of! He proposed an overly familiar act with the officer.

How odd! His social skills could use some touching up!

He's afraid of "stocky" people!

Rep. Bob Allen.

Do you think he's ever accidently
seen his own reflection and helplessly
offered to give himself oral sex?

Of Course.

Probably OVERPAID himself.

After all, he's a stocky white guy.

4. I have a question
Rubio, a West Miami Republican, last week called the remarks "disturbing."

1) Is it disturbing because it implies that the charges are true?
2) Is it disturbing because it signals that a Republican will not weasel his way out of trouble?
or
3) Is it disturbing because the explanation is so patently pathetic that even a child would not believe it?

6. How about ...
The statements are disturbing because they are blatantly racist, playing to a fear of the Black male.

17. You are exactly right, however
a Republican would never be disturbed by this, not even J.C. Watts, Justice Thomas nor Ron Christie. So, I figured those were the three choices that mattered to them.

8. Will they make him chair of the Ethics Committee?
They probably don't have an Ethics Committee. That would be a safe place to put him.

9. A Liar, a bigot and a Coward...what took so long? Why hasn't he resigned?
Look, you got caught so at least have the dignity to resign from representing the people...even the "black" people. Think how many blow jobs you'd have to give if there were a riot. If he is hanging on to his position because he's afraid he can't get a better paying job then it's still all about him and his wants and the Florida congress should demand his resignation. Maybe that way he could keep any shame involved limited to his personal sphere and not the public congress but what do I know. Maybe he has a lot of republican sympathizers who react the same way when the see a lot of Blacks in a park late at night.

13. Who knows what the % is of our elected politicians...

Who are only power-hungry and willing to do anything to maintain their elected office. I would guess that the tragic answer is: almost 100%.

How likely is it that most of these people could find another "job" that has the perquisites, power and prestige they enjoy being a Representative in the US Congress? Very, very unlikely.

Once elected these politicians care only abut getting re-elected in perpetuity. To increase their chances it is imperative that they raise prodigious amounts of money. This need to make "cake" is why our system is broken and why the peoples business is not on their agendas.

It has required a scandal like this to turn out a sitting Rep., almost everyone of them is consistently re-elected, barring a publicized scandal.

16. Allen's arc is astonishing. If his story is true why didn't he complain about entrapment?
This could happen to other innocent people. So he, as an elected representative would be in a perfect position to insure that others wouldn't face the same problem.

Oh, but I forgot empathy and Republicanism are opposites.

Of course I don't believe his story. And, like usual, the cover-up is worse than the crime.

It's hilarious from 2 districts over.

When he played the race card, though, my grin inverted right quick.
