Pace of attacks on U.S. troops hasn't slowed since Saddam's capture
BAGHDAD - Saddam Hussein's capture three weeks ago hasn't slowed the anti-American insurgency in Iraq, which now seems more entrenched than ever, according to a review of recent attacks and interviews with U.S. and Iraqi officials.

U.S. and Iraqi officials say they now doubt that Saddam had a significant role in directing guerrilla attacks. They say that while his interrogation has led to some arrests, basic information is still lacking about the guerrilla cells that are attacking U.S. and allied troops with sophistication and brutality.

"We don't think, as some have speculated, that he was the central figure managing the entire anti-coalition operation," said Brig. Gen. Mark Kimmitt, the top U.S. military spokesman in Iraq. Still, officials believe the former leader played some role. "Do we fully understand where Saddam fits in? We're putting that puzzle together."

U.S intelligence officials in Washington said Saddam has begun cooperating with U.S. interrogators, but they said he claims he wasn't involved in directing the resistance and denies he had links to al-Qaida or other international terrorist groups who now appear to be joining the guerrillas.

1. Brush was on both sides of this - capture might increase them but in
the end there would be fewer.

A statement of such insight that I just know his SAT's were very high!

2. Admitting, once more, that they were wrong
Is this some parallel universe, where you get credit for being wrong, and abuse for being right. Basically this is all distraction anyway. If U.S./U.K. can hold on to the oil at a cost in blood and treasure that isn't completely intolerable, they will stay, otherwise they will go.

Notice we don't hear much about how the oil extraction is going lately. Is there a news blackout, or is everything Okey-dokey?

3. DUH!!!
The GOP party over Saddam has ended,...quite quickly, no less.

I wonder how long the occupation/resistence will be dragged out.

Maybe, they plan to use that $4B to pay-off puppets in the tribes so they can maintain control over the oil AND do a visible pull-out within the next six months.

I wonder,...

6. We are "safer" since Saddam was captured saith Bush, Lieberman...
Gephardt, and Kerry.

CNN said today that the Orange Alert level may be extended until the end of January.

I don't know if I can handle being "safer" than what we already are without being put on tranquilizers.

7. Didn't one of our candidates mention the other day...
...that the capture of Saddam didn't make us any safer?

And didn't he get flamed in the media and by some of the other candidates for saying it?

I guess he was right after all, huh?

8. Ka-CHING! Some people have the stones to point out the
Emporer has no clothes.

The rest are frightened that Limbaugh and Hannity might call them unpatriotic.

10. Did he just point out Skeletor's incompetence?
We don't think, as some have speculated, that he was the central figure managing the entire anti-coalition operation," said Brig. Gen. Mark Kimmitt, the top U.S. military spokesman in Iraq.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Dumsfeld a pretty big proponent of the "Saddam as insurgency leader" canard?
