Obama: Americans can rise above petty politics
Source: Des Moines Register

America can overcome petty politics that are bogging down the nation's world standing, Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama said here this morning.

"Part of what ordinary Americans talk to me about every single day is their hope and their desire to overcome the polarization and the pettiness and the trivialization," Obama told a crowd of about 75 people at Saints Rest Coffee House. He said it's "still possible for us to come together around a sense of common purpose, higher purpose."

It was the second time Elizabeth Yang, a recent Grinnell University graduate, had attended an Obama event. She's still considering other Democratic candidates.

"I'm not really sure if I'm going to vote for him but I'm definitely in support of a lot of his policies" such as his stand against the Iraq war and goal to create universal health care, Yang said.

1. We've had CRIMINALS running the government for the last
several years and he's talking about "trivial" polarization? We've had to fight tooth and nail to keep them from running us into the dirt.

Does he actually HAVE a clue? Does he think he can negotiate with people who want to DESTROY government and let corporations run the world?

Honestly, he's starting to piss me off.

4. I am with you there.
I posted yesterday - He doesn't know what he doesn't know.

For years the Rethugs have played by Ultimate Wrestling rules while the Dems played by the Marquess of Queensberry rules. Obama wants to have a chat and look for common ground with the people who want to kill us, including him. Good grief.

I called this his Tom Daschle/Rodney King approach - Can't we all just get along. No we can't. I am not ready to make nice with murderers and thiefs, hatemongers and war profiteers. People who have chosen themselves over others. I think I am going to hurl.

7. If he won the White House, they'd eat him alive...
He'd be trying to play nice and they'd be sharpening their knives on his backbone.

He doesn't seem to understand the way they play the game. He was successful at being bi-partisan in a state house, but the national GOP wants to DESTROY everything we stand for. They'll smile to his face and play along and rip him to shreds when he's looking the other way.

He's SO not ready for the big time.

2. Then, Obama, quit attacking Clinton and Edwards. There is plenty to
say about the Bushistas to keep you busy.

6. Why does Edwards complain about Obama then?

8. Obama wants to play nice with the criminals who've been
busy raping America and the rest of the world. As if it's possible. At least Edwards seems to understand the stakes. Obama doesn't seem to.

3. Well, lets see Obama set the example first then!
Or will he be espousing more empty rhetorical comments out of both sides of his mouth?

Hillary is Bush-Cheny-lite, anyone?

9. She's the last person I want to support, but I'll support whoever the Democratic nominee is.
You're right, though. I'm afraid she isn't much of a change from what we've got. She is definitely better than the Cheney administration, but not what most of us hope for.

10. She's more pro-business than I like
but I'm starting to get the feeling that Obama is dangerously naive.

11. This is two strikes against Obama, just today
The first was him saying we need to give more "defense" money to Israel, and now we make nice-nice with the people that want to throw us in re-education camps????

I'm SO disappointed with the big 3 right now...:puke:
