German woman abducted in Afghan capital
18 Aug 2007 11:17:33 GMT

KABUL, Aug 18 (Reuters) - Unidentified gunmen kidnapped
a German woman on Saturday in the Afghan capital, an
Interior Ministry spokesman said.

The woman was seized as she was walking on a street in
the southwestern part of Kabul, where some aid groups
have offices, spokesman Zemarai Bashary said. He had
no further details on the abductors or the woman.

Several foreigners have been kidnapped in recent years
in Kabul, mostly by criminal gangs, but have been
released unharmed after a period of time apparently
after ransom payments.

The latest abduction comes a month after two German
aid workers and five of their Afghan colleagues were
kidnapped by Taliban guerrillas in Wardak province,
which lies to the southwest of the city.

3. Taliban kidnap four engineers in Afghanistan
Edited on Sat Aug-18-07 06:32 PM by ohio2007
KANDAHAR: Taliban militants kidnapped four Afghan engineers working on a bridge in the south under a government-funded rural development programme, a provincial police chief said on Saturday.

The engineers were working for the National Solidarity Programme, which funds projects in villages across the country that residents choose and implement themselves.

The elders in the village had taken responsibility for the safety of the engineers, said Saqib.

The Taliban are also holding a 62-year-old German engineer abducted one day before the Koreans in Wardak province.

(Recasts with the woman's appearance on video)

By Sayed Salahuddin

KABUL, Aug 19 (Reuters) - A German woman abducted
in the Afghan capital at gun point appeared in a
video on Sunday asking Berlin to use every effort to
gain her freedom.

Wearing a long headscarf and a red local outfit, the
blonde woman read from a note in Dari:

"I am fine ... I ask my country to urgently help and
cooperate for my release," she said in a video aired by
private television station Tolo, while displaying an
identity card that read Christina Barbara Meier.

The woman, apparently in a small room, introduced
herself in English and said she was an employee of
"ORA International" aid agency. A man who was not
seen in the tape asked her questions in broken
English.

5. ORA International
they have ulterior infidel motives --- they are a "fundie" cartel
;)

We have a clear goal in mind

As an organization, our goal is to provide holistic help. Poverty always affects the whole person – body, mind and soul. Accordingly our service incorporates meeting physical as well as intellectual and emotional needs.

And the question remains: why are we an interdenominational Christian aid and development organization?

Because we believe that man was created by God. God created us as individuals in his image. We are convinced that it is His will for us to live in communion with Him, sharing His love through serving those in need.

"Afghan police freed a female German hostage from a neighborhood in the capital Kabul and arrested a group of kidnappers early Monday, an Interior Ministry spokesman said.

The 31-year old German captive was abducted from a restaurant on Saturday and the operation to free her took place near the area of western Kabul where she went missing.
