2. I always buy these packages of baby carrots
The ones I buy are prewashed and all you have to do is pour them in, altho I run the water over them in a colander first anyway. I just don't like to cut them.

3. This Is why Gramma always said wash your veggies.
No one should trust the safety of their food to group work. But we're lazy and usually do.

15.  Thailand Peas
I went into Walmart not because I like it but because it was new and I was curious. I happened to pick a pack of four small microwaveable containers of peas. I didn't read the package. When I got them home there it was "Product of Thailand". We can't grow peas here anymore? I threw them out not wanting to even give them to the dogs.

7. I buy baby carrots for dog treats....
My vet told me about it because I have one that is on a perpetual diet. They absolutely love them and they are good for them.

However, they also like grapes which are really bad for them so stick to the non-contaminated carrots.

8. Will someone PLEASE give farm workers a bathroom and some hand sanitizer???
It's not asking too much, is it? This is dysentery in the US...

The article doesn't mention which strain it's contaminated with. If it's a Shiga toxin producing variant, it's deadly (and a horrible death).

You can't wash or cook the toxin away.

13. now, that's asking way too much of agribiz---do you know how much $ it would cost
to provide such expensive items to farm workers? Let them shit in the fields and not wash their hands! :sarcasm: Do you want to pay the high costs that will be passed on to consumers, just to stop these bacterial outbreaks? :sarcasm:

:banghead: Your idea for a fix is too easy, agribiz would rather just poison everyone. :puke:

16. That's a fine idea- but
with "globalized" and industrial food production and distribution, it's often very hard to trace back to the source of the contamination- it be in any or even several of a dozen or more steps in the process.

11. Even when they aren't from shaved down carrots, the "baby carrots" are from a long skinny variety
that was developed to mature rapidly and that means that there is substantially less beta carotene in them so less Vitamin A. Of course, these carrots are still a good source of Vitamin A.
