Alleged Klansman jailed in 1964 killing of black teens
Source: CNN.com

JACKSON, Mississippi (AP) -- James Ford Seale, a reputed Ku Klux Klansman, was sentenced Friday to three life terms in prison for his role in the 1964 abduction and murder of two black teenagers in southwest Mississippi.

Seale, 72, was convicted in June on federal charges of kidnapping and conspiracy in the deaths of Charles Moore and Henry Hezekiah Dee, two 19-year-olds who disappeared from Franklin County on May 2, 1964.

1. So sad it took this long
but THANK GOD it took. I hope the "reputed" klansmen lives to be 100.

The two victims were beaten unmercifully, then weighted down and dumped in a body of water while they were still alive. By Christians!

9. Christians?
I don't think...

And that's coming from an atheist.

10. Seale and his character witnesses
all said that he was a good christian family man, a credit to his community, an ill man, not a flight risk who should not go to jail. Who am I to argue? I think he is a classic representative of a southern christian in his 70's.

2. Justice delayed is justice denied...
That said, I hope this old piece of shit does hard time for many, MANY years to come and then burns in a special hell forever. That pretty much wipes out all my good karma, I suppose, but what the heck... :grr:

3. He certainly deserves to die in prison...
Unfortunately, at his age, he's statistically likely to eat up nearly the entire prison medical budget... Jailing people at his age is incredibly costly.

(Not suggesting he not go to jail, just underscoring the tragedy that justice was so delayed)...

5. Although, presumably he'd still be in jail if he'd been jailed in the 1960s
Unless you're suggesting, um, never mind...

In any case, I doubt he's contributed in any positive way to our country or his community since he committed this heinous crime. Probably responsible for a lot of other crimes as well, including possibly other murders. Not to mention his support of the Klan.

7. If he'd been jailed in the 60s, he'd surely been released by now...
and having spent 40 years or so behind bars, I'd have been fine with that...

6. The Southern Poverty Law Center is bringing these old cases to trial
The Southern Poverty Law Center is a wonderful organization and one that I proudly support. They are seeking justice right now for a variety of hate crimes, including a crime involving Klan members that occurred in 2006.

Please click on the link and support them if you can. http://www.splcenter.org/index.jsp

8. They are wonderful people. Hope only more and more success for them.
We need so many more people like Morris Deez and his associates.

Thanks for the link.

11. I am 100% against the death penalty.
Edited on Fri Aug-24-07 04:49 PM by FrankieBud
The heading is my mind speaking. In my heart though, James Ford Seale needs to be killed. He needs to have the fear of death looming over him. His 3 life terms mean that an old man is going to be confined for a few short years until he dies a natural death. His prison will provide him with all the amenities to sustain his life. Unlike his victims though, he will have the ability to talk to and write to his friends and family. He will also have all the legal rights pertaining to his confinement.

I(Frankie), would pull the switch to kill this man if I could...

13. Me too, Frankie
If this is an example of a fine Christian, spare me from Christianity. I agree with poster about having a big, black, roommate. That would be sweet justice, and the old KKK murderer would never have a peaceful night's sleep again.

CBC producer helps track down U.S. murder suspect

Associated Press and Canadian Press

January 25, 2007 at 1:55 AM EDT

WASHINGTON — A former Mississippi sheriff's deputy was arrested Wednesday in the 1964 slayings of two black teenagers who were long believed to have been kidnapped and killed by the Ku Klux Klan, after a Canadian documentary filmmaker helped bring the cold case back to life.

~

Federal authorities, who were focusing on the more famous Mississippi Burning killings, turned the Dee and Moore case over to local authorities. A short time later, a justice of the peace called an end to the inquiry without presenting evidence to a grand jury.

~

“There is no way on this Earth that this would have happened if it weren't for the CBC allowing David Ridgen to go down to Mississippi.”

15. You may enjoy reading this article posted by DU'er "Maddy McCall," which mentions the filmmaker
from Canada. It's a great article:
