Report: No sex charges for disgraced lawmaker (Mark Foley)
Source: CNN

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Former Rep. Mark Foley, the Florida Republican who resigned his seat last fall after it was revealed he sent sexually explicit e-mails to underage House pages, is unlikely to face criminal charges for his behavior, Scripps Howard News Service reports.

The news agency reports federal investigators have been unable to gather enough evidence to prove Foley, 52, intended to "seduce, solicit, lure, entice, or attempt to seduce a child," with his inappropriate contacts.

While there is still a chance new evidence could come to light before the investigation officially wraps up "in the next several days," according to the report. Once the investigation is complete it will bet turned over to Pensacola prosecutors — the location from where Foley sent his inappropriate e-mails.

1. Yet a Florida schoolteacher gets ten years for the same thing?

And I don't even know the details of that one -- sounds like Foley was using his position in a much more coercive way...

Why do I think the local DA in *that* case was a Repubbie looking to boost his local political career?

3. So why did he resign?
Shouldn't he be given his seat back? Shouldn't he be given other opportunities. After all he's a good christian with values.

7. There is no accountability in our government anymore
No executive accountability (Iraq war)

no Congressional accountability (this, plus Abramoff)

and no Judicial Accountability (Supreme Court gives election to Bush)

citizen who runs afoul of the law, many times unintentionally. My SO recently forked over $280.00 for "entering a bike lane more than 200 feet from the corner." The officer estimated his car entered the lane "approximately 210 feet from the corner."

If you are a powerless peon, you're screwed. If you're a powerful bigshot, you can get away with anything. There is no justice.

10. Investigators could not look in his Office Computers
well, they have no trouble busting in Mr. Tamm's door to check and see if he's a leaker and they had no trouble busting
in the door of Rep. Jefferson, oh wait, what's wrong with me, they are not cronies.

13. Was There Ever Any Evidence Presented That He Did Anything Illegal?
To my knowledge: no. Nada. Zip. No one ever accused him of behavior that was illegal, only inappropriate.

It was never anything more than a delicious - very delicious - sex scandal, and yet for reasons unknown, that wasn't enough for some.

16. That sums it up.
Overly friendly to the underage, explicit e-mails when they hit 18, but with no coercion.

Sleazy, slimey, repugnant, creepy, but if you can't prove anything illegal, not illegal.
