Rice thanks French counterpart for Iraq visit

Fri Aug 24, 11:27 AM ET

WASHINGTON (AFP) - US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has thanked French counterpart Bernard Kouchner for his visit to Iraq, seen in Washington as another global bid to help stabilize the war-torn nation, a US official said Friday.

Rice spoke to Kouchner by telephone on Thursday and "she thanked him for his visit," the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The official added that the French minister held talks with US ambassador in Baghdad Ryan Crocker during the three-day visit from Sunday.

No details of the conversation were immediately available.

Kouchner's visit was the first by a French minister since Paris opposed the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003.

1. So France wants a piece of the loot?

It's funny, because after what happend in Southeast Asia about
40 years ago you'd expect the French leadership would recognize
a fubar situation when they see it?

It'd be a nice big disaster, much bigger then Vietnam for Sarkozy
if he'd seriously considered investing in this utterly destroyed
country named Iraq.

Foreign policy isn't Sarkozy's strength. For example, it won't take
long until this ill-advised engagement in the incredibly corrupt
Libyan regime will be recognized as the disaster that it is.
I've seldom seen a statesmen make so many bad decision as Sarkozy
has in this short time as president.

2. It's strange that Condoho isn't at the Ranchero with * enjoying a stay
in her own room built for her by the Chimp. Things must have cooled down quite a bit. They don't appear to be so close anymore.
