08.25.07, 7:59 AM ET

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia - Saudi Arabia ordered the recall of 2,300 toys made in China feared to contain high levels of toxic lead paint, the country's official news agency reported Saturday.

The Saudi minister of commerce collected 46 samples of toys in the Riyadh markets to examine whether they contained dangerous chemicals, the agency reported. The findings were not yet revealed.

On Wednesday, the same ministry ordered a recall of seven different brands of toothpaste made in China after lab tests discovered high levels of toxic diethylene glycol.

U.S. toy maker Mattel Inc. (nyse: MAT - news - people ), which recalled almost 19 million Chinese-made items including dolls, cars and action figures earlier this month, warned its agents in Saudi Arabia that lead has been found in the toys, the press agency added.

1. Oh dear. When will China start trying to play isolationism and protectionism against them?
Thank you, Saudi Arabia.

2. Recommended.
I know this story is about toxic products in Saudi Arabia, but these toxic products are also here. People need to be careful.

6. Saudi Arabia wouldn't really care
they'd still get their nuke umbrella support, get their money from oil, get their armaments from america still, and a bankrupt america only weakens american support for shia in iraq which is against saudi interests. they have no real fear of china's reactions. but they could be terribly amused by the effort.
:D
