4. Has there been any confirmation by scientists,...
,...concerning this meteorite?

Good grief, I'll bet all the apocalyptic/armageddon types are going "goo goo" over this kind of news.

5. Any one have the stones to go over to freerepublic
to see what those "compassionate conservatives" are saying. Apparently after that big earthquake last week some they were talking about how God was striking them down for being Muslims, and all their "un-American" ways.

12. These freepers never cease to amaze me...
how they can run their lives according to their interpretation of the bible and yet are probably all going to hell for the vile way they treat their fellow man/woman. Jesus would be pissed. IMHO

16. yeah this...."...a BIBLE STORY being written before our very eyes."
....sad they aren't paying attention....and distort what information they do happen to read about to suit their twisted theocratic views......ravings of the brainwashed religious right...truly frightening...horrific that this person perceives he's seeing a bible story being written?? :freak: :puke:

22. Biblical in proportion
What is "horrific" about acknowledging that way to describe what is happening in the world today?

I won't go to FR to get the context, but I can see how this person may see things that way. After all, we see the world through the lens of our culture and this person is using that means to make sense of, or put a pattern on, events that are shocking or strange to most observers.

Right or wrong, how about showing some compassion? This may just be a scared child. Or a very frightened adult.

23. well I've not seen a whole lot of compassion for freepers around here.....
....and it's horrific to me that these people spout about BIBLE STORIES...and ignore the here and now....and the repercussions of their ignorance IS going to bring about the end of the world...but it won't be THE HAND OF GOD...it'll be by their own hands pumping oil out of the earth and burning it in the atmosphere....and countless other things the ole theocratic morons who happen to be in control of our country at present are getting accomplished....it's quite horrific I'd say!! :evilfrown:

18. FWIW, someone DID start a "meteor-is-a-missile" thread over in GD
around 5 PM CT. I'd be ticked if I were the freeper who started the betting pool, cos one of his buddies is undercutting his bet.

13. Itsy-bitsy meteorite. How about the one that hit Illinois?
I didn't hear any freepers repenting their sins because of this meteorite:

"On the night of March 26th, (2003) shortly before midnight, residents of several Midwestern states witnessed a dazzling — and, to many, frightening — spectacle in the sky. A brilliant fireball appeared over central Illinois and moved north, ending its fiery descent through the atmosphere in at least two bright flashes just south of Chicago. Powerful sonic booms soon shook the landscape and were detected as far away as western Canada.

"At least six houses and three cars in the town of Park Forest and surrounding area were damaged," Sipiera says. He estimates that the debris fell in an elliptical-shaped strewnfield approximately 10 kilometers long and several wide.

17. About the earthquake - if it had hit America or Europe: 24x7 news
Edited on Sat Jan-03-04 06:04 PM by elbayl
30,000 people dead - 30,000 - and the quake in Iran barely makes top billing in our news, Imagine if it had happened in Europe or some other democracy - we'd have it heard about 24 x 7.

Now there's no way an earthquake could kill 30,000 in America because we have building codes but if a similar size quake hit Cally and a hundreds or thousands die it would be as big as 9/11.

19. No need to worry people
if you believe in that end of the world talk.

Meteorites impact earth ALL THE TIME.

Statistically speaking there are good odds that eventually one would impact this general location on earth.
