Iran Vows to Use 'Smart' Bomb on Enemies
Source: Associated Press

Iran vowed Sunday to use a new 2,000-pound "smart" bomb against its enemies and unveiled mass production of the new weapon, state television reported.

The government first announced development of the long-range guided bomb Thursday, saying it could be deployed by the country's aging U.S.-made F-4 and F-5 fighter jets.

"We will use these (bombs) against our enemies when the time comes," Defense Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar said on state television Sunday.

--
The broadcast included a brief clip of a fighter jet apparently dropping one of the bombs, which destroyed a target on the ground.

The defense minister continued his threats as state television showed him unveiling a mass production line for the weapon in Tehran.

4. If it's made by Maxwell Smart (or in China!), who needs to worry?
But if the leader of Iran loves to talk about blowing countries off the face of the map, nobody will get any rants from me about stopping the creep before he genuinely gets a chance to put his words into practice.

9. Or when we attack them unprovoked, as we will before election day
If a terror attack doesn't happen for the Repukes.

They're gonna need either a new 9/11 or a new war to win next year.

Simple as that, to me.

10. It sounds more like a threat of retaliation, should the U.S. or Israel strike first
"We will use this weapon where we want to ... hit enemy's strategic and defense targets," Najjar said. "This will be used against our enemies, against those who violate our land and air space."
(from the linked article)

Not that I think it is a very substantive threat, considering the technical superiority of the U.S. and Israel. It might make sinking ships more likely, though.

14. France's Sarkozy raises prospect of Iran airstrikes

France just rattled the sabre, guess they made the A list.

Easier to hit French interests in the middle east since they have assets sitting in Lebanon.

but... idle threats are made by all sides until one side blinks.

7. "aging F-4s & F-5s" shows how much of threat those countries are. They have no tech they haven't
bought from us, Europe, or Russia. At best they can defend themselves, but there is no chance Iranian troops will be storming the beaches of Martha's Vineyard.

8. I think the message is
that Iran is modernizing their forces and should not be invaded. I don't think Bush is listening but regional powers are.
