AOL logs on 'Dissent'
Source: Variety

Some serious Michael Moore bashing will turn up this week on AOL's True Stories website thanks to 40 minutes of excerpts from the documentary "Manufacturing Dissent."

Web users will be able to stream the digital video at no extra cost.

Debbie Melnyk and Rick Caine, creator-producers of the docu, describe themselves as progressive liberals who started out as admirers of Moore's work. But two years of filming ended up documenting the thesis that Moore manipulates his movies to favor an ingrained left-wing ideology, leaving himself open to the charge of dishonest writing and editing.

"When I saw 'Manufacturing Dissent' at the South by Southwest Film Festival," said Stephanie Sharis, director of creative development for AOL, "I felt it was saying some compelling things that would resonate with our audience."

2. Moore DOES manipulate his movies to favour his views
Moore isn't pretending to be a journalist and he makes no bones about that. He doesn't have to maintain an illusion of balance. Moore is a polemecist, the movie-making equivelent of a pamphleteer. He didn't set out to make Sicko (for example) as an unbiased portrayal of the state of the nation's health, he set out to indict the health insurance business. If one disagrees with his views or doesn't like his work, then fair enough, I'm not a big fan of his movies either (although I love his books) but to accuse him of framing his work in a particular way is both accurate and complete misunderstanding of what Moore is and does.

3. "ingrained left-wing ideology"
If you didn't know that Moore's documentaries are made to advance liberal causes, you need to get out from under the rock you've been living under.

There is nothing wrong with making a movie/documentary to make a point or to expose something, which is what Moore is doing. As long as you don't make up facts or lie (and present it as the truth)...which Moore does NOT do...it's fine.
