Boeing Issues Directive On Thousands Of Jets

The Boeing Co. said Monday it was issuing an emergency air worthiness directive for 783 domestically registered airplanes.

Boeing said it would like to see every 773-600, 700s, 800s and 900s checked for a properly placed bolt that affects slats on aircraft wings.

The notice covers 2,350 or more airplanes worldwide.

On Saturday, Federal regulators ordered inspections of the wing slats on all newer Boeing 737 jetliners based on findings about the fire that destroyed a China Airlines 737 in Japan last week.

Slats slide out the front edge of the main wings during takeoff and landing to stabilize the aircraft, along with flaps that come out of the wings' rear edge.
