Senator Craig withdraws from Romney campaign role

US Senator Larry Craig resigned tonight as Senate co-chairman for Mitt Romney's presidential campaign, within hours after news broke of Craig's guilty plea to disorderly conduct after an incident in a men's bathroom.

"Senator Craig has stepped down from his role with the campaign. He did not want to be a distraction and we accept his decision," Romney's campaign said in a statement.

(snip)

In May, Romney's campaign announced that Craig would be co-chairman of the Romney for President Idaho Leadership Team.

"Our government is in need of a proven leader like Governor Romney, who will put in place benchmarks and streamline our government using proven conservative principles," Craig said in the Romney campaign's statement. "His message is resonating with voters and I'm looking forward to helping him on his way to winning the Republican nomination."

12. He's out buying another Pound of Coke for the staff.
I love how the so-called MSM calls it "...buying less than 500 grams of cocaine with the intention of sharing it with other people..." when it's actually

HE BOUGHT ALMOST A HALF A KILOGRAM (OR MORE THAN A POUND) OF COCAINE FOR THE CAMPAIGN STAFF!:banghead:

Idaho Senator Larry Craig made the following statement in response to the Roll Call story this afternoon:

"At the time of this incident, I complained to the police that they were misconstruing my actions. I was not involved in any inappropriate conduct.

"I should have had the advice of counsel in resolving this matter. In hindsight, I should not have pled guilty. I was trying to handle this matter myself quickly and expeditiously."

7. Romney Camp Removes Craig YouTube Video
Today's news about Sen. Larry Craig's June arrest at an airport in Minnesota has prompted Mitt Romney's campaign to take down a YouTube video starring the senator, who has been a supporter of Romney. The Romney campaign named Craig a co-chair of the former governor's Idaho Leadership Team back in late May, but Craig has now distanced himself from the Romney camp.

"Senator Craig has stepped down from his role with the campaign. He did not want to be a distraction and we accept his decision," Romney spokesman Matt Rhoades told us tonight.

The news about Craig reminded us that we're a long-time subscriber to the senator's YouTube channel, because he has one of the best online video strategies of any elected official.

Sen. Craig's office produces "Washington Report" every other week. The show is posted on the Senator's Web site, appears as a podcast, and on the Senator's YouTube channel. "Report" updates Idahoans on the senator's work, and is hosted by Iris Amador, a spokeswoman for the senator who works with Spanish-language media. She hosts the show in English and Spanish. The senator's office produces "Report" in both languages, in order "for a portion of our citizens" to "better their understanding of the Senate," according to Craig's Web site.

11. What's up with Mit? Is he picking these idiots on purpose?
It's like he (and the other GOP "contenders") are just daring us to out all the Criminals or outwardly Gay hostile/"Family Values" Republic Party A-holes who are in reality closeted GOP T-boys or Marriage defiling sexual deviants, by playing Mit "Mr. Clean" Romney and putting them on his campaign?:wtf:

O.K., Here's my Scandal count so far:

13. IT IS FRONT page on WaPost:

GOP Senator Pleaded Guilty After Restroom Arrest

Senate GOP leaders said yesterday that they were shocked by the news but declined to comment further. "We just found out about this incident late this afternoon," said Josh Holmes, a spokesman for Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).

Because Craig pleaded guilty to a crime, the incident may be reviewed by the Senate ethics committee. Its chairman, Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.), declined to comment last night.

In 2006, a gay activist said he had spoken with men who had sexual encounters with Craig, including in the restrooms at Union Station. Craig's office told the Spokesman-Review of Spokane, Wash., that the allegations were "completely ridiculous."
