Castro's tip: Clinton-Obama the winning ticket
Source: Reuters

HAVANA (Reuters) - Ailing Cuban leader Fidel Castro is tipping Democratic candidates Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama to team up and win the U.S. presidential election.

Clinton leads Obama in the race to be the Democratic nominee for the November 2008 election, and Castro said they would make a winning combination.

"The word today is that an apparently unbeatable ticket could be Hillary for president and Obama as her running mate," he wrote in an editorial column on U.S. presidents published on Tuesday by Cuba's Communist Party newspaper, Granma.

Castro's only reference to U.S. President George W. Bush in his latest essay was to say that he "needed fraud" to win Florida's electoral college votes and the presidency in the fiercely contested election in 2000.

1. Rove is composing a "Castro's Choice" ad right now...
But I'd be delighted with a ticket like that.

4. Yip, KKKarl is planting the Fidel-kiss-o'-death on any potentially successful Dem ticket
The "death" pun not intended, but I'll take it.

5. Huh? Why? Neither Hil or Obama will change Cuba policy significantly.
Actually, Mr Castro criticizes them both for their pandering to the right wing exiles in Miami.

Getting criticism from Fidel is a feather in the cap for candidates pandering to the right, so, I don't understand the meaning of your comment.

9. He might criticize them out of one side of his mouth, but this o.p. was about his
calling them "winning" and "unbeatable," and "tipping" them as the team to beat, which is a compliment from the other side of his mouth, and which is a wingnut dream to smear Dem candidates with.

Nothing hard to grok here, especially to close followers of San Fidel's interminable ramblings, oral or written. Ordinarily, being subjected to Shrub, I would suspect that those interminable ramblings are written by somebody else, but in San Fidel's case, even at his age and whatever his state of mind, I am willing to concede that they're ALL HIS, and no compliment is intended.

&, please, I am attacking San Fidel, not DU posters, so please, no wagering--uh, I mean, flaming.

11. What Castro actually said...
Today, talk is about the seemingly invincible ticket that might be created with Hillary for President and Obama for Vice President.

I agree w/your point about nothing hard to grok here. BUT, he didn't call them invincible. He merely observes what the US and international media seems to be projecting.

So, go ahead and rely on the US MSM's misrepresentations of Mr Castro's "interminable ramblings". They seem to be busy covering (up) Herr Bush's malapropisms to get much accuracy. Having learned that Americans know ever so little about Cuba (and what they do know is 98% US gov anti Cuba propaganda, delivered reliably by the MSM), I try to go to the source and read for myself before commenting on anything having to do with US.Cuba relations.

15. So why comment on the MSM misrepresentations as if they're accurate?
Because you think that correcting the misrepresentations of the media equals being an apologist makes it so? Hardly.
Grok this.. to accuse those who seek to fill the information gap, to correct the MSM distributed lie, and shed light on the actual statement of Mr Castro of being "total apologists" just reeks of rightwing exile smear tactics.

10. I DARE Reuters to confirm that.
I will bet any sum of money one cares to name that this story came straight out of the West Wing of the White House, soon to be followed by a September 11 "Fatty Osama" endorsement.

16. Why don't you read what Mr Castro actually said?
Why fall in line with the US media, and base your opinion on their lies and propaganda?
