U.S. soldier killed in bomb attack in Iraq

An American soldier was killed by a roadside bomb
explosion in the volatile Diyala province, northeast
of Baghdad, the U.S. military said on Thursday.

The explosion struck the soldier's vehicle during
combat operations in the province on Wednesday,
a military statement said.

The name of the soldier is being withheld pending
notification of next of kin, it added.
