WORLD-HERALD BUREAU

WASHINGTON — Sen. Chuck Hagel and former Sen. Bob Kerrey appeared together Wednesday, following the same script: Both smiled and both sidestepped questions about which, if either, of them may run for the Senate next year.

Sen. Chuck Hagel, R-Neb., and former Nebraska Sen. Bob Kerrey on Wednesday in Washington, D.C. They are teaming up this fall on a fundraiser to support a proposed retreat for wounded service members and their families near Crawford, Neb.

The Vietnam veterans teamed up at a Capitol Hill press conference to voice support for the Omaha-based Wounded Warriors organization, which hopes to build a retreat for wounded service members, their families and relatives of those killed in combat on 80 acres near Crawford in northwest Nebraska.

But neither Kerrey nor Hagel had much to say when the subject turned to next year's U.S. Senate race.

Kerrey, a Democrat who served two terms in the Senate, last week said he was seriously considering running if Hagel retires.

1. Look at that picture--those two are up to no good.
That's the happiest I've ever seen the Chuckster, though--he should smile more often.

4. LOL!
By the way, I was checking up somthing on votevet's site http://www.votevets.org/, and cam across this:

NEW VOTEVETS.ORG RADIO ADS COMMEND THREE REPUBLICANS

Major General (Ret.) John Batiste, former 1st Infantry Division commander in Iraq, life-long Republican, and advisor to VoteVets.org, is featured in a new radio ad campaign being launched today, that praises Senator Chuck Hagel and Representatives Walter Jones and Wayne Gilchrest for standing up for the troops.

The ads can be listed to here:

HAGEL
GILCHREST
JONES
Senator Hagel and Representatives Jones and Gilchrest have consistently voted with the troops, on bills that would begin a responsible redeployment from Iraq, and would give troops as much time on the homefront as spent in theater.

What on earth is he up to, I wonder...

6. I think it's nice that Batiste is doing that--all three of those guys have
really taken a beating from their own party because of the war. It's about time someone pointed out that wanting a responsible end to the war IS supporting the troops.

2. Caption: I'm with stupid.
I'm a bit surprised that Kerrey is considering running. I really thought he was done with politics.
