Iowa Democrats are split on how to defeat Bush
http://desmoinesregister.com/news/stories/c4789004/23165867.html

United in their disdain for President Bush, Iowa Democrats are split on how to defeat him.

"The rift is very real in Iowa," independent pollster John Zogby said. "Democrats are of two minds."

As candidates gather in Des Moines today for a debate, it's clear both minds are incensed at what they believe is a president who cares more about rich Americans than the middle class and who has abandoned international cooperation.

One camp, led by former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean, believes the best way to beat President Bush is to defy everything he stands for. Rep. Dick Gephardt and Sen. John Kerry, on the other hand, warn that tack could backfire in November.

Polls show that wholesale animosity toward Bush among Iowa Democrats and discontent with his policies among the general electorate grew steadily last year, a trend mirrored nationally.

1. Can the truth backfire?
And if the truth does backfire it will only be with the obvious what the rich and greedy hold dear to 'em and the rest of us in bondage called fear.

3. What's next? Cautiously endorse rape, perjury, murder?
Paging Harry Truman! Nobody ever claimed Harry was exactly a genius, but he did win an election he wasn't "supposed" to!

Give 'em hell, anybody!

9. Hey, how about adding TREASON to that list?
Let's not forget the Valerie Plame Affair.

Treason, ladies and gentlemen.

4. "defy everything he stands for"
Yet Dean's policies are all basically the same as Bush's -- keep pumping money into the war industry, keep our kids in Iraq where they're being killed and maimed, keep pumping money into the drugs war and prison industry, keep pumping money into wealthy pockets via the healthcare industry, keep LGB people deprived of civil rights, keep sick people from being able to treat themselves....

Evidently his 'defiance' is all lip service.

5. Yepsen
For all outside of Iowa not regularly exposed to this columnist's conservative banter ... take it with a grain of salt. He is a committed repub and when he talks about a Democrat you can usually assume the truth is 180 degrees from what he writes or says.

8. So is this guy wrong in saying that discontent with Bush's policies
has steadily grown all year? What's 'conservative' about that?

7. "Standing up to Bush could backfire." Brought to you by the same folks
brought you the 2002 elections and who "fought" for Al Gore in 2000.
