A smothering police presence rendered a potentially volatile rally uneventful Saturday in Omaha.

More than 300 officers, many clad in riot gear, stand watch as restricted demonstrators heckle each other

About 330 officers from 10 law enforcement agencies stood ready as 65 members of the Minneapolis-based National Socialist Movement protested immigration policy in front of the Mexican Consulate at 35th Avenue and Dodge Street. About one-third of the police officers wore riot gear.

The protesters, who wore swastikas and called themselves Nazis, were fenced off. So were dozens of counterprotesters. The two sides heckled each other.

The event, scheduled to last two hours, broke up after one hour. For safety's sake, the self-professed Nazis were bused to and from the site.

My daughter was there to anti-protest against the Nazi's. I'll post her story about this tomorrow. I was in Lincoln at the NU football game.

2. That's what the German Nazis called themselves adding worker to boot.
In reality the fascist Nazis had nothing to do with socialism other than the name. Some sincere socialists got caught up in the Nazi party until they realized Hitler was anything but. In the case of our homegrown Nazis, I don't believe those morons even know what socialism stands for.

5. It shows the real face of the anti-imigration movement and that's good.
You couldn't do more to discredit the anti-immigrationists if you tried
