China to give Philippine military 6.6 million dollars in aid

Sep 3, 2007, 8:25 GMT

Manila - China will donate more than 6 million dollars worth of 'items' for the ill-equipped Philippine armed forces, officials said Monday.

Chinese Defence Minister Cao Gangchuan announced the 50-million-yuan (6.62-million-dollar) grant in a meeting with his Philippine counterpart Gilbert Teodoro.

Cao is in Manila for a five-day official visit.

'The Chinese government has given today a 50-million-renminbi grant of items for the armed forces,' Teodoro told reporters after his meeting with Cao.

He said details of the grant, specifically what items were needed by the Philippine military and what China would give, would be finalized in future meetings.

1. China is investing their influence
Things have been so bad economically many Philippine citizens have been hoping the US would come back

Looks like China is making sure that won't happen

3. Disgusting.
China is directly aiding a military that is waging a ruthless counterinsurgency campaign that is killing many farmer and labor activists across the country. China's government is now quite directly an enemy of the people of the Philippines.

Lessee...... The US borrows money from China to finance it's bogus "war" and China turns around and hands funds to the Filipinos. I guess you could say that we ARE returning to the Philippines in a sense!

6. Muslims and the NPA
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_People's_Army

When visiting the Philippines with my wife I was quite appalled by how bad poor people were exploited there. This was my first time outside the U.S. so it was quite a contrast and a wake up for me. After seeing this I got to asking some of the members of her family questions about the politics of the region. With poor people being exploited as they were there I was surprised revolutionary communism wasn't more popular. Come to find it was actually. They told me how the gov't talks about all its problems with Muslims in the South but the real people they were afraid of and wanting to fight was the NPA. The link above talks a bit about it, also how 9/11 was used as a cover to allow the gov't to coin this movement a terrorist organization.
