Mattel To Announce 3rd China Toy Recall
Source: Associated Press

NEW YORK (AP) -- Mattel Inc., whose reputation has been battered by two high-profile toy recalls this summer, will announce on Wednesday the recall of a third batch of Chinese-made toys because they may contain excessive amounts of lead paint, The Associated Press has learned.

The latest recall by the world's largest toy maker will be for a Fisher-Price toy and accessories to a Barbie playset and involves several hundred thousand units, according to two persons briefed by Mattel executives who asked for anonymity because the company has not yet formally announced the action. It could not be learned whether the toys were made in different Chinese factories.

Mattel officials did not immediately return phone calls on Tuesday.

Mattel's last recall, announced on Aug. 14, covered about 19 million toys worldwide. They included Chinese-made toys that either had excessive amounts of lead paint or had small magnets that could easily be swallowed by children.

2. Time to boycott MATTEL
And I know many of you think it's worthless --

But a boycott is going to let Mattel know that they should be manufacturing their overpriced toys HERE, where oversight can be done, rather than china.

It's obvious that they don't give two shits about our kids - only their profit margins.

6. Don't think that will really be necessary
I believe that three recalls will do enough damage to their public image that it may be a very long time before they recover their market share. It will be a shame if anyone in the U.S.(retailer, distribution, warehousing, transportation, office staff, etc) has to suffer a job loss due to managements inability to do their job.

3. It's way past time to boycott China entirely. Most Americans have
WAY too much "stuff" anyway, and certainly don't need more.

4. Hasn't the U.S. Military made metric its standard also?
<snip>
Military
The U.S. military uses metric measurements extensively to ensure interoperability with allied forces, particularly NATO STANAGs, "standardization agreements". Ground forces measure distances in "klicks", slang for kilometers. Most military firearms are measured in metric units, beginning with the M-14 which was introduced in 1957,<4> though a few legacy exceptions exist, e.g. .50-caliber guns. Heavy weapon caliber is measured in milimeters. Military vehicles are generally built to metric standards. An exception is the U.S. Navy whose guns are measured in inches and whose undersea fleet measures distances in terms of "kiloyards" (equivalent to 914.4 m), depth as "feet", and velocity, in some cases, as "feet per second". The Navy and Air Force continue to measure distance in nautical miles and speed in knots, however, these units are now accepted for use with SI. <11>

8. Mattel investigation
Hey Everyone—

I have important news to share. Mattel is recalling millions of toys made in China and recently announced they are expanding the recall for the fifth time to include Barbie accessories.

We are working with a law firm that is very concerned with the slow speed at which Mattel is moving on these recalls and is investigating ways to make the process faster and more complete. If you or someone you know owns any of the toys, we would love to hear from you and your experiences in learning about the recall. Send an e-mail explaining your experiences to info@hbsslaw.com or check out the Web site on this issue: http://www.hbsslaw.com/investigation_mattel.htm
