Rep. Gillmor dies
By Jackie Kucinich
September 05, 2007
Rep. Paul Gillmor (R-Ohio) passed away suddenly Tuesday night, according to his office. No other details were immediately available. He was 68.

According to an inter-conference email obtained by The Hill, Gillmor did not show up to the office this morning causing his staff to become concerned. When they went to his apartment to check on him, they found that the lawmaker had passed away.

Capitol Police is currently investigating, but sources believe that the 10-term lawmaker may have had a heart attack.

11. Gillmor was an old-fashioned kind of congressman
Not a camera hound, and a hard worker as it concerned constituent service for his district.

If more Republicans were like Paul Gillmor, I don't think their party would be nearly as dangerous.

According to Politics1, there are no prospective D candidates listed for the '08 race at this point.

26. Gillmour was a solid incumbent
He was well respected as a successful person who chose to serve the community where he grew up. He was a Moderate Republican of the older style tradition.
That does not mean that there are not strong local parties. There are Democrats that run in primaries in most of the communities that he served and some that are elcted officials.
Yes, they will have to find a serious candidate who is willing to step up. For the past several races, the Democrats did not believe that they could beat the incumbent. Now that the incumbent is gone, that changes everything.

When 68 seems young. I was thinking this morning, when I heard Miyoshi Umeki died, that she was "only 78".

20. Thoughts and condolences to Mr. Gillmor
Rep. Gillmor represented the district area where I grew up; although he was socially conservative on the hotbutton issues, he had many great ideas and took care of his district. Thank you for your service.

On a side note, the district is not too solid of a red district (perhaps maybe in the western half). My home county, Huron, elected Democrats Ted Strickland, Sherrod Brown, and state reps Sue Morano and Matt Barrett in 2006.

25. I grew up in his district
He was well respected as someone who was serving his community. My condolences to his family and others close to him.
Yes, I do think that it would be possible for the Democrats to take back the district. It is not as solidly red as some here would think. It is true that Gillmour won by wide margins but he was more of a moderate Republican and as I said before, he was well respected as someone who was serving his community where he grew up.

29. Ohio congressman found dead in apartment
Source: Kansas City Star

By JIM ABRAMS
Associated Press Writer

Bradley Mascho, communications director for Rep. Paul Gillmor, R-Ohio, confirms the congressman's death, Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007, in Arlington, Va. Mascho said he found Gillmor at the bottom of the stairs at the congressman's townhouse.

This undated handout photo released by Citizens for Gillmor shows Rep. Paul Gillmor, R-Ohio. Arlington County, Va. police officers are seen outside the home of Rep. Paul Gillmor, R-Ohio, Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007, in Arlington, Va.

Ohio Rep. Paul Gillmor, a Republican whose political career covered four decades, has died, party officials said. "Born, raised and educated in our home state of Ohio, Paul never lost sight of the reason he came to Congress - to serve this great institution and his constituents with dedication and distinction," House Republican Leader John Boehner, also of Ohio, said in a statement.

"With the passing of Paul Gillmor, the people of northwest Ohio have lost a favorite son," said House Republican Conference Chairman Adam Putnam, R-Fla.

The body of the 68-year-old congressman was found by staff members who went to his apartment Wednesday after he failed to show up for work, according to a Republican aide who spoke on condition of anonymity pending an official announcement. There was no immediate word on the cause of his death.

Gillmor's office did not respond to a reporter's call.

39. Hypoxyphilia or asphyxiaphilia
Two other sources

EXCERPT:

There's a clinical name for deriving sexual pleasure from suffocation, strangling, or otherwise restricting the breath - it's called asphyxiaphilia. The practice is also known as "breath play" in the context of a sadomasochistic relationship, or auto-erotic asphyxiation when practiced alone in a masturbatory act. It's very dangerous - one of the most dangerous sexual kinks - and many people have died or suffered irreversible brain damage as a result of taking it too far.

SOURCE: http://www.collegesexadvice.com/choke.shtml

2nd SOURCE:
The act of depriving oneself or another of oxygen in order to achieve orgasm is classified officially in the United States as Hypoxyphilia, according to the American Psychiatric Association and as referenced in numerous professional articles discussing the subject. The APA classifies hypoxyphilia as a mental disorder, as noted by the periodical Psychology Today. This, however, has been widely disputed and by many is considered unnecessarily pejorative. Hypoxyphilia falls under the category of psychiatric disorders known as paraphilias, a term that refers to an unusual or unnatural attraction.
A sexual partner may or may not be involved in the act; however, if a sex partner is excluded the practice can be referred to as autoerotic asphyxiation, or AEA. Various methods are used to achieve the level of oxygen depletion needed such as a plastic bag over the head or self-strangulation, typically by the use of a ligature (scarfing). The practice is extremely dangerous and has resulted in many accidental deaths.<1>
Historically, the practice of autoerotic asphyxiation has been documented since the early 1600s. It was first used as a treatment for erectile dysfunction and impotence.<2> The idea for this most likely came from subjects who were executed by hanging. Observers at public hangings noted male victims developed an erection, sometimes remaining after death (death erection), and occasionally ejaculated when being hanged.<3> Note that, however, ejaculation occurs in hanging victims after death because of disseminated muscle relaxation; this is a different mechanism from that sought by AEA practitioners.
Deaths often occur when the loss of consciousness caused by partial asphyxia leads to loss of control over the means of strangulation, resulting in continued asphyxia and death. While some people do enjoy incorporating asphyxiophilia into sex with a partner, many individuals enjoy this behavior by themselves, making it potentially more difficult to get out of dangerous situations<4>. Victims are often found to have rigged some sort of "rescue mechanism" which has not worked in the way they anticipated as they lost consciousness.
In some cases autoerotic asphyxiation may have triggered carotid sinus reflex death, but this claim is controversial .
With the exception of the books Autoerotic Fatalities by Hazelwood et al. (1983) and Autoerotic Asphyxiation: Forensic, Medical, and Social Aspects by Sheleg et al. (published in 2006) there has been no comprehensive coverage of erotic asphyxiation.<5>
Full SOU$RCE::http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autoerotic_asphyxiation

I just read that some politician died from an accidental fall consistent with the bruising and busted neck. This may be the same guy.

My reply was more in support of "Some people say...

When it was just one thing after another?

I guess there is some kind of balance in nature. The gopers certainly have had their share of bad news the past couple of weeks.
