U.S. Army Counters Mosque Raid Criticism

Associated Press Writer

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - American soldiers on a weapons raid stormed into a Baghdad mosque, ducking behind pillars with rifles raised and ready to fire in a video edited by the U.S. military and shown Sunday to counter Iraqi criticism.

Like previous forays into Iraqi mosques believed to harbor insurgents and their weapons, Friday's raid on the Ibn Taymiyyah mosque provoked a street protest and charges of U.S. soldiers trashing a Muslim holy place and tearing the pages out of the Quran holy book.

American authorities deny the charges and showed edited video footage at a news conference. The raid was an orderly affair, with soldiers neatly rolling up carpets in search of rumored secret tunnels, which were not found. Troops lined up hand grenades, stacked guns and hauled off what the military said was a sack of gunpowder.

The footage had no sound - U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Mark Kimmitt said there was a problem with the video. So he narrated.

1. "edited" video footage, very revealing
who shot the entire thing and what's been left out?

2. Can't exactly edit out what happened,..
to the folks who were there,...and my guess is that the Iraqi people are going to believe their own long before they believe a tape presented (and edited) by the military.

3. With the current Neocon mindset, reality is just an obstacle to be
overcome. They have discovered the old Goebbles penchant for repeating lies over and over until people take the lies as truth. It works on many. Just look at Free Republic.

5. I have encountered so many,...
without even having visited that place, yet. Moreover, I have pulled a buncha Goebbels quotes out on them.

4. What was found
Three packages of TNT explosives, a 60 mm mortar tube, eight improvised grenades, bomb-making equipment, two rocket-propelled grenade launchers, 11 assault rifles and two bags of gunpowder were among the weapons recovered in the raid, he told reporters.

6. Per the "Crusader," Genral Kimmit...
I trust that man as far as I can throw him.
