Dems criticized in purported bin Laden video
Source: NBC News and news services

WASHINGTON - Democrats were criticized in a purported video by Osama bin Laden for being unable to stop the Iraq conflict. The video, obtained Friday by the U.S. government, NBC News and other news oprganizations, marked the sixth anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.

The al-Qaida leader said major corporations were to blame for the continuation of the conflict, which he said the "vast majority" of Americans want stopped.

“You elected the Democratic Party for this purpose," he said, accorded to a translated transcript. “On the contrary, they continue to agree to spending of tens of billions to continue the killings and the war there.” <SNIP>

The Department of Homeland Security said Thursday it had no credible information warning of an imminent threat to the United States, and analysts noted that al-Qaida tends to mark the Sept. 11 anniversary with a slew of messages. <SNIP>

2. View it as proof that Bin Laden and the neocons are in cahoots
ask your nearest wingnut, doesn't this prove that Bin laden approved the actions of President Bush?
And, if so, doesn't that make you wonder why Bush's strategy meets with OBL approval?

8. That not suprising, is it, after all bin laden is GWB fathers business partner
Any one that believes that junk, need their head examined... If the Bush family and the bin laden family weren't so closely connected then some of us might belive the republican voo dododo. After all didn't bin Laden's friend and business partner The BUSH FAMILY go after Saddam and destroy Iraq, instead of going after of be Laden and his Saudia Friends. Boy how the Bush family protects their friends and cohorts.

haha..now even bin laden is chiding dems for being spineless(just a little humor!!)

seriously..i think the tape is just to tell his supporters and the FBI and CIA that he is alive.this also gives the republicans some much needed ammunition..next time dems call for withdrawal they can say O..the democrats want to help al-qaida!!..

12. I don't think many democrats will fall for this junk
What it could drag out of the wood work, is more of the same stuff I heard last week, thet the Bush family and administration is responsible for the whole 9-11,might just backfire in the republicans faces.

11. He is repeating GOP talking points.
Edited on Fri Sep-07-07 04:34 PM by Virginian
He shows up right before an election to scare stray security Moms back into the fold then he taunts the Dems for not ending the war.

This is way to partisan for a foreign terrorist.

The pictures are always so grainy all the time. With his money, you'd think he would get a better camera.

Add all that to the beard going from gray to dark and we have all the trappings of a campaign ad made in Hollywood or Bollywood.

This actor is the Grecian Formula Osama. Isn't it odd that a man living in a cave can be so vain as to dye his beard. Maybe the next step is to get an eye lift. That right eye looks real droopy.

Edited to add link to talking point: It says "impeach," but it could just as easily fit "get out of Iraq." (Hope link syntax is right, Can't preview to check link)

16. I think it is a fake
as to what purpose it is supposed to serve remains to be seen. When the tape is translated by independent people maybe we shall see. Anyway I think Bin Laden is dead and his body is on ice somewhere waiting for the right time to be brought out and displayed for the people to see that Bush is doing something. Maybe Just before the election. Now they will have to dye the beard on the corpse.

17. This is such a bogus video.
Osama is dead I'll bet and now we know what missing man Cheney's been up to...photoshopping an old video to make all us afraid and think it's the real thing. Just in time for Sep 11 this year.

Why is Bush allowing something "purported" to be released? And why does the text sound like something the Bush White House wrote? Why doesn't he talk about how awful the Rethugs are?

20. "Soon after Washington announced it had the video...
...all the websites that usually carry statements from al-Qaeda went down and were inaccessible, in an unprecedented shutdown"

- how convenient. and there's this bit.

"Bin Laden also appeared to refer to memorial ceremonies in Hiroshima and Nagasaki..."

- i'd think that fox news could take that and run with it gleefully. 'nuke threat from bin laden'; is this bit on the news? (we don't get network tv)

21. I could give a crap about this
video. What pisses me off is the leaders in the Senate will not go before the cameras and tell the American people they understand you elected us to a majority in both house of Congress, but because the Republicans require us to get 60 votes to even bring this to the floor for a vote.we are stopped ...Damn, if they do not educate the american people has to what is going on those same folks will blame the Dems for not doing anything as the latest polls seem to indicate they already have in placing the blame on the Democrats....

I thank you
Ben David
